Free Music Review: Maturing With Grace And Retaining The Drive: The Best Live Album Since Different Stages
Hit: 5 Stars

The 2007 Snakes and Arrows Tour was very special to me as a Rush fan, as I was fortunate to catch my 30th Rush concert that summer. S&A Live is a crisp, energetic testament to that wonderful tour. Yes, the tempos may be a bit slower and the vocals transposed down, but one must ask the question: can one run, skate, ski or do whatever as hard at 55 as one could at 25 years of age? Rush, like Yes, Genesis and many of its contemporaries, are still quite vital and prove it on S&A Live. As our favorite bands get older, I find it refreshing to see added depth and maturity to existing songs. Personally, I think the versions of "Mission" and "Far Cry" on S&A Live are superior to their studio counterparts. And we get excellent first-time live versions "Entre Nous" and "Circumstances." One reviewer described Peart's solo ("Da Slagweker") as boring - was a thorough, complete listening present? I like the fact that there is some variability in the compositions in each successive live album. Four versions of "Tom Sawyer"/"The Spirit of Radio" sounding exactly alike would be a bit monotonous.
In short, this is Rush's best live album since Different Stages. The quality of perfomance, sound and presentation is outstanding.

Free Music Review: Excellent Listening Experience
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a longtime Rush fan who has been following the band's career for decades now. When I heard about this release, I wasn't thrilled. I thought, what do they need another live cd for? They've pretty much released one with each past studio recording. Looking at the song list, I felt they were skipping many good songs and focusing on some odd choices. I put the purchase off for a while. Once I got the cd, I understood completely. The tracks selected to play along with the Snakes & Arrows tracks are perfectly chosen. There is a rhythm and pulse to this release. One song flows smoothly into the next to create a unique experience. I am so glad I went ahead and got this. This live recording goes beyond showing Rush's perfectionism and great musicianship. It reveals their understanding of a longer view of music: tracks played to complement one another to create a mood, an experience. Rather than a typical hits-fest recording, this is a unique show.

Free Music Review: Nice addittion to the diehard collection or for the new fan.
Hit: 5 Stars

Having gone to the Wantagh show I had to get this live CD package just to verify what I thought my ears had heard live. Sure enough it was all there from the surprising welcome of Entre Nous to the set list to the inclusion of such gems as Circumstances and A Passage to Bangkok. The former NEVER having been performed live while the latter not in at least 25 years (or more). Having been a fan and grown with this band since 1976 I can only say they only get better and better. They certainly do not play or sound like they did in 1976 or even 1986, but seem to sound like a completely different band then they did from back then.
In answer to some of the criticism that they are pushing out too much live stuff... you have to remember they've slowed down the studio output in recent years due to either market conditions or personal reasons. Any new RUSH material whether studio or live is welcome.

Free Music Review: Flawless - Couldn't Learn to RESIST
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a diehard Rush fan. I have seen them in concert most tours. The quality of their musicianship is rarely seen in any other band. I have to say I tried to RESIST buying this live CD. I have two copies of S&A and also a boot that was floating around. In the end, I just couldn't help myself. I wanted to hear the quality of the professional record and I wanted to hear the new stuff live as well as Entre Nous which has never been played live (up till now). I also really enjoyed the album art and the book enclosed. New photos are in there especially of interest to me of one with Ged and his Rickenbacker 4001 Bass. Could I have downloaded this off ITunes, yes but it is nice to have the disc to keep with all the others. I am not sorry for buying it. To anyone who has not ever seen Rush live, What are you waiting for? You get a huge set list of songs and top notch performance to be matched by none.

Free Music Review: Very well done
Hit: 5 Stars

Just got my Amazon copy today (in perfect condition), and I am very impressed. The sound quality is fantastic. One reviewer complained about it, and I have no idea what he's talking about.

I saw the concert in St. Paul, MN, in Sept. 2007. It's always a plus to get a professional recording of a tour you saw, but this CD is better than anyone could have expected.

The setlist is great, mixing S&A stuff with both older and newer songs, and blending well-known with the less well-known. It's a great balance and a fantastic live album. They are playing with such a spark on this tour, such energy and perfection all rolled into one.

Actually, the whole set is great, but my favorites here are Digital Man, Secret Touch, and Way the Wind Blows.

No complaints at all, and no hesitation giving it 5 stars.
