Free Music Review: Compilation Featuring Some of the Best

They have, in fact, released many. And many of those are featured on this one CD. I was plagued with the "clunker" syndrome when shopping for Rush CDs. I wanted a CD with my favorite songs... but I didnt want to sift thru tunes I didnt like before I got to my favorites...

The solution? You're looking at it right now.

This song highlights their "best" (from a majority point of view) songs released in that 1974-1987 time period. I WISH they would have extended the albums past Hold Your Fire - I really like many of Rush's newer albums - but dont let that hold you back, this CD still packs a whailing.

In order to avoid purching a Rush CD at full price, and only getting FOUR SONGS (Hemispheres) out of the deal, I have been purchasing CDs that have been created from a pile of their best songs. You either do that, or purchase a live album. To me, the best bet was to get the compilation and hear the songs the way they were meant to be heard - in the studio, prepared just as Rush liked them.

While it is true that you should try and expand your Rush library to albums like Moving Pictures and 2112... you dont necessarily have to avoid the "Best of" CDs. They're a great thing to carry along on a car trip... you want to listen to the best songs from different Rush CDs? Just pop in The Spirit of Radio: Greatest Hits 1974-1987. You've already got most of your favorites on there.

Some material that I wish this CD would have included: By-Tor and the Snow Dog, La Villa Strangiato [I can see why they left this out, but I wish they didnt], Natural Science, YYZ, and The Camera Eye. I know these arent particularly mainstream - but they're still great songs and shouldnt have been overlooked.

Considering all, though... I give this disk 5/5 stars.
