I love movies that are consistent in one or more areas: use of the same cast, same"team" , color based or anything that makes these movies recognizable.Wes Anderson has succeeded in this. But rarely is the music a part of this.The first soundtrack of one his movies I bought Rushmore is proof that extra care was taken in choosing each song which creates a theme and ultimately a steady compilation. Selecting underground Who, simple Cat Stevens and lesser known Kinks among others spread evenly with Mothersbaugh original and now recognizable style instrumentals. Get this and the Royal Tennenbaums and the Life Aquatic becomes an obvious buy regardless of seeing the flixFree Music Review: I loved this Soundtrack!!

I thought that this soundtrack was fantastic! I personally loved Rushmore and I have memorized all of the soundtrack. I just can't seem to get enough of it. It has everything for whatever mood you're in. My personal favorite was The Kinks "Nothing in this World Can Stop me worring bout that girl" I also loved the great job Mark Mothersbaugh did with the many songs. If you liked the Rushmore soundtrack I suggest you listen to The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. It also has the same touch that Wes Anderson has that fits perfectly with the movie. I loved the movie 'Rushmore' and I love the soundtrack just as much.A superb compilation featuring great songs from great artists like Cat Stevens,John Lennon,The Who,Creation,Unit 4 + 2, The Kinks,Chad & Jeremy and The Faces,it must surely rank as one of the finest soundtrack CDs of recent years.The songs are so synonymous with the movie,for instance,when you listen to Cat Stevens' 'Here Comes My Baby',you can picture Max doing cartwheels.This is one of those rare CDs where every track rocks. My favourites are 'Concrete & Clay' by Unit 4 + 2,'A Summer Song' by Chad & Jeremy and 'Ooh La La' by The Faces.Free Music Review: Nick Drake on Rushmore Soundtrack

I saw the film last night and was especially charmed by the fabulous soundtrack which includes a host of obscure but brilliant gems. Like another reviewer I also thought I heard a Nick Drake song in the movie. I sat through the credits at the end and it turned out to be a Donavan(!) song. It was terrific, but I'm afraid I don't recall the title. I've looked through his song titles listed with amazon, hoping I'd see one that rang a bell, but didn't find one. I'm afraid you might have to watch the end credits to find the song title. A Nick Drake song would have fit the sweet melancholy tone of the film perfectly.Free Music Review: IT'S NOT A COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK!

Mark Mothersbaugh has shown great post-Devo compositional skill in creating the filler tunes as well as re-offering his "Snow-flake music" from another collaboration with Wes Anderson (and great movie), Bottle Rocket. What I don't get, though, is the admission in the liner notes of going for a distinctly "british invasion" soundtrack. YET, in compiling the tunes from the movie here, they neglected to include "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan, which would have been wonderfully fitting in this collection as both a great little jingle and a tune from a notable british invasion participant!
