Free Music Notes for Captain Corelli's Mandolin / Stephen Warbeck (2001 film)Free Music Review: The Average Rating is Wrong! Hit: 5 Stars
Stephen Warbeck's score for "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" is great. "Pelugia's Song" is one of the most haunting love songs in recent memory. The reviews that rate this album based on the fact that it does not include Nina Gordon's great "Tonight and the Rest of My Life" should be removed. As another reviewer writes, movie trailers are prone to grab any music they can to sell a movie. I saw the original trailer in the theatre and it had "Pelugia's Song" played by the entire orchestra and it was fabulous. Then, I guess they were getting desperate because this score does not contain 8,000 rock songs like a lot of today's films usually do. So a new trailer was constructed with Nina Gordon's song, which is also very beautiful but very misleading. Then, I saw another trailer which has some other music in it. Over the years, we have heard themes from "Dragonheart," "The Last Dragon," "The American President," and others slapped over trailers that had nothing to do with the movie. When I saw the first trailer and heard the real music from the film, I was moved and suspicious at the same time: was this the real music from the movie? Or would I have to start searching for somebody's else's soundtrack? No, Nina's wonderful song does not appear in the movie. Instead, we have Russell Watson singing "Pelugia's Song." This is the finest score of the year. Buy it!
Free Music Review: Wonderful As Is Hit: 5 Stars
It's rather stupid to bash a soundtrack just because it doesn't have the song from the trailer on it. This is a *wonderful* soundtrack in its own right. Don't listen to those who grouse that it doesn't have one bloody stinking tune on it. That's not a rip-off--geez, folks, it happens! Like the previews from "Mulan", I think it was, used a tune from "Dragonheart," and were I to look, I *seriously* doubt that tune is on the "Mulan" CD. Trailer use does not guarantee it will be on the CD. Just listen to the album and you'll find a *lot* of splendid music--the instrumentals are positively wonderful. What's the point of buying a CD for *one* song anyhow?! I agree with the Minneapolis reviewer below. 5 stars, and I'd give 6 if it were possible!
Free Music Review: An album to touch your heart Hit: 5 Stars
Although the war scenes in the film are quite successful, the film is mostly a love story and 'music' is in the very heart of it. The main theme 'Pelagia's Song' is a very sentimental melody and the album contains different versions of it. The two romantic songs 'Senza di te' and 'Ricordo Ancor' performed by Russel Watson are simply wonderful. The songs are recorded in the order of events that take place in the film, so careful and imaginative listeners can re-live the film as they listen to the CD. Some songs really make one wish to be able to play the mandolin or to be somewhere on the Mediterranean, listening to such melodies. It is the right choice for those who need some peace of mind. A wonderful album for a wonderful romance...listen to it and dream of love...
Free Music Review: Pelagia's Song Hit: 5 Stars
I just saw "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" and I thought it was a Great Movie. The thing that got to Me, however, was the Music! The reoccurring (Pelagia's Song) theme was very moving. I liked it in all its forms, Mandolin, Full Orchestra, and the Vocal at the End Credits. The Vocal with Russell Watson really hooked me into buying the Soundtrack. Does anyone have the English rendition of the Lyrics? All the Hoopla of not having the "OTHER" song in the soundtrack is just a little sour grapes. That one WAS nice but hey... Get over it. Go Buy Nina Gordon's album! I agree with corglacier7.
Free Music Review: Stephen Warbeck is great Hit: 5 Stars
Just because a song -- or score -- is shown during the trailer of a movie doesn't mean it will be on the soundtrack. Are you just now learning that? If you had been listening to the radio a year or so ago, you would have recognized the track to which you're referring as Nina Gordon's "Tonight and the Rest of My Life" -- the song is powerful enough to make me want to see the film. You see the connection? I love Stephen Warbeck, by the way.
