Free Music Review: Giving the CD as presents
Hit: 5 Stars

I, like many others, can't believe the bitterness or scarcasm directed at Russell Watson by the critics. Some of the critics appear to be classic buffs whose criticisms I understand but not the others. I've never read so many reviews in which critics are buying CDs they know nothing about. Is this stupidity or made up stories. I heard bits and pieces of Watson's singing and bought the album. I fell in love with it. Like one critic, I let my son and daughter-in-law and other family members listen to it since I have it on all day and night, and unlike the critic's family members, they all were amazed at the versatility of Watson. This is the reaction I receive from all of my friends and co-workers who have heard this album. Not a single person has told me it is trash or waste of money or turning up their nose at it. The consensus is everyone is amazed with Watson's ability to sing with a different voice for both pop and classical. His first selection, Nella fantasia, is absolutely beautiful and sets the tone for all of the selections on the CD. In fact, the younger crowd really like his pop voice but, as you would expect, turn a deaf ear toward Watson's classical voice, as they would for Pavarotti and even Bochelli, too. I don't know what's going on with the critics, but as far I'm concerned, I am now full-fledged Watson fan. I'm buying more VOICE albums and giving them as presents. I just can't wait for his Encore album.

Free Music Review: Watson is talented
Hit: 5 Stars

Critics fail to realize that it's not due to media exposure which accounts for Russell's popularity or an ignorant group of people who cannot recognize a recording worth listening to. Whether his singing is good is up to each individual listener. The fact that his album is selling is an excellent indication that this recording is good to listen to. If it were not, I and millions of others would not be buying this album. I had never heard of Russell Watson until I saw his concert on Public Television and since then have never seen any media blitz about Russell Watson. Still, he is managing to sell his albums at a record pace. I believe it's due to the public, including myself, who became immediate fans of his singing, recognizing a voice that is unique and wonderful. I am not a novice as far as music is concerned and appreciate Watson for his exceptional ability to branch out into both classical and pop music, something very few, if any, singers can do. Watson is a rare and vibrant singer, much like Mario Lanza in his hey-day, and I look forward to Watson having a promising future and to be a powerful force in classical music. This album is superb - from his soft and lilting rendition of Nella fantasia, to the Sting or Mel Torme frog-like voice in Miserere to his operatic and passionate Pelagia's Song to his powerful voice in singing Barcelona and his pop voice in singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters. This guy is talented.

Free Music Review: Great Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I agree with the reviews that state the criticisms of Watson seem phony and that the weekly critical submissions must be due to jealously or just programmed with a few word changes. I am wary of the stories in these critical reviews because If I really dislike an album or singer, I would not buy it because a friend recommended it to me or my friends would never buy me an album as a gift, knowing I didn't like it, or I wouldn't be a fool to spend money just to see what the controversy over a singer was about or, after listening to a few excerpts and not liking it, I wouldn't waste my time submitting a review just to downgrade it unless I wanted to be downright nasty or I would not go to the lengths of asking my family to listen to one singer's voice and compare it to another and finally, I would not go on a mission to tell the world what a terrible singer Watson is. Normal people would just forget about a singer they disliked and buy something they like and support it. These critical reviews that come in weekly just seem absolutely absurd. Anyway, if I really like an album, then I would submit a review as I am now. I liked this album because I never get tired listening to it and, yes, I am a Russell Watson fan, now, probably due to the critical reviews. But as far as the album is concerned, the music is not overdone, the singing is not flat, the album is not boring, and Watson is a tremendous talent

Free Music Review: Classical Music Fan
Hit: 5 Stars

Being a fan of classical music for a long time, it's obvious that Domingo, Carreras etc have experienced and mature voices, more so than Watson. However, I actually enjoy listening to Watson's new and developing voice and his different interpretation of the classical arias. The great tenors can carry notes longer and have that operatic voice that classical followers love, but I do find Watson's singing refreshing, almost singing with abandon, and he appears to be a talent who could develop into greatness in the near future. Watson is one up on the great tenors due to his ability to sing pop tunes, with great feeling, contrary to what the critical reviews state. Any criticisms labeled at Watson's singing pop tunes have to be looked at dimly and without validity because pop singers come in all different sizes, shapes and forms. There are hundreds of terrible pop singers out there who have hit songs because the tunes are carrying these singers. So when you have reviews criticizing Watson's pop voice, you know it's just a malicious person trying to hurt Watson's career. His opening number, Nella Fantasia is beautiful and although I get tired of hearing Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Watson sings it beautifully. Classical musical critics complain about his Miserere but I think the average musical fan just think it's fabulous because of his changing voices. I recommend this album, highly.

Free Music Review: A USA musical fan
Hit: 5 Stars

A few months ago, I was reviewing the top 25 best-seller classical albums and came upon Russell Watson's name, whom I've never heard of before. Reading through Watson's reviews, it's pretty obvious to me, and many reviewers have the same opinion, that whenever the good reviews are written, the critics seem to flood the reviews with sarcastic and horrible reviews as though it's a personal vendetta against Watson. I'm thankful that the critical reviews did not influence my decision in purchasing Watson's album, THE VOICE. I would have missed a great talent who has an amazing versatility to his voice and has provided hours of enjoyable music. I came back to purchase another Watson album and began reading the recent reviews, again noticing the same trend of good reviews, then a flood of bad ones. Judging the content of the critical reviews indicates that these people must be truly unhappy people writing sarcastic reviews and downgrading Watson as a pub-tenor and people who buy his albums as numbskulls. Fortunately, the majority of the people do not read these reviews and the critics are in the minority, except when writing reviews, giving biased opinions to only the few individuals like myself who reads these things. I just think this album is great and so will others. I plan to purchase his new Encore album and appreciate this great, new talent from England.
