Free Music Review: Personal Choice
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember a music/theatre critic writing an article in a Spokane newspaper many years ago denigrating a colorless personality with an equally dull, colorless and monotonous voice singing songs in a movie called "Pete Kelly's Blues. That dull singer was the late and famous jazz singer, Peggy Lee! Now I read critical reviews of Russell Watson falling way short of what constitutes a classical singer from individuals with supposedly learned backgrounds in classical music. If an expert critic can call Peggy Lee a singer with a dull voice, then I have no faith in every day critics claiming Russell Watson, a boring and limited singer in range. These critical reviews are so commonplace that I believe it really is a matter of personal choice on which voice is great or terrible. It all boils down to what you or I like. I like Russell Watson. That is enough for me. I listen to his CD and cannot hear what the critics hear because I am entranced by his powerful and appealing voice. I recommend this CD to anyone with an open mind who wants to hear a rare and unusual singer with a tremendous future ahead of him.

Free Music Review: Just browsing, classical music fan
Hit: 5 Stars

I was not a pro-Watson fan or a Watson enemy. Browsing the classical albums, I would have ignored this album if it weren't for the fact that there were so many negative criticisms in the reviews all similarly stating stating boredom, ghastly etc. countered by 5-Star rating reviews. Normally, if there were only 5-star ratings I would have assumed the reviews were coming from a Watson fan club and would have dismissed the album. However, the severe negativity of the reviews aroused my interest, so I bought the album. I enjoyed it immensely. I just thought this was an excellent album in which the singing of Watson lends an excitement that one seldom experiences as one reviewer mentioned. His rendition of the classical and pop tunes are new and refreshing. The critics should stop lambasting this album. It only arouses the curiosity of individuals like myself who are just browsing. Anyway, I thank the critical reviews because I otherwise would have ignored it and missed out listening to this wonderful album. I probably will now follow this singer's progress and future albums. Thank you critics.

Free Music Review: One-of-a-kind Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this album last year and enjoyed it so much that I have been searching for Watson's second album. Not finding any new album in the local record store since he is still relatively unknown in the US, my daughter suggested searching Amazon.com. At this site, I started reading the reviews on the VOICE, expecting nothing but 5-Star reviews but to my surprise saw these terrible criticisms of this remarkable, classical singer. I cannot believe these reviews. This is not a 1-star recording. At the very least, a true critic would rate this a 3-Star rating. Watson sings each song in this album with passion and beautifully, ranging from the classical aria, Nessun Dorma, to the pop song, Bridge Over Troubled Water. I, myself, thought his versions of Caruso, Miserere, and Pelagia's Song were outstanding. I am a music buff and appreciate talent when I hear it. Russell Watson is talented. When I hear a singer who is terrible, I also know it. These critics, sadly, for some reason, cannot tolerate Russell Watson's phenomenal success. This is an exceptional, one-of-a-kind album.

Free Music Review: A superb offering
Hit: 5 Stars

I hate opera...I mean I "respect" opera and people who like opera but I really just don't like it at all! However... I bought this CD on a complete whim and was surprised at every track on here. No...this isn't big brassy tenor screaching....this is ...mellow? I can't describe his voice better than gorgeous! Tracks that entranced me include "Saylon Dola" a duet with Maire Brennan the lead voice of the Celtic ensemble Clannad. "Nella Fantasia" just melts in your ears! I never knew of opera singers who covered early 80s synth bands but he covers ULTRAVOX's "Vienna" which seems totally suited for this kind of style. "Nessum Dorma!", "Panis Angelicus" and "Miserere" are also stuck in my head too! Think a male Sarah Brightman... Think New Age Opera... and personally I don't care if you use is for reflexology, bubblebaths or migraine relief! This is for everyone! If you love opera then please give this album a fair chance. If you don't like opera such as myself...then introduce yourself to it via Russell Watson.

Free Music Review: My choice
Hit: 5 Stars

It's been a long time since a singer has caught my attention as Russell Watson has. I first saw Watson in a public television special and have been a fan of his since then. I'm not an expert in music but I can certainly distinguish between a great, good or average voice. If Russell Watson's voice were as inadequate as some of the negative reviews say, I would not have watched the television special or purchased this CD. Many singers can make the transition from Classical to say Broadway stage musicals without sounding uncomfortable or from Rock to pop tunes, but the transition from rock-pop to Classical is unheard of. Russell Watson does this and he may not sing every song in this CD with perfection, but does anyone? Despite any imperfections claimed by the critics, I prefer Watson's version of every song on this CD. Most important for me is that I thoroughly enjoy listening to his magnificent voice and appreciate this great talent. Others may view it differently, but that's their choice. I am eagerly looking forward to all of his future albums and concert tours.
