Free Music Notes for Russell Watson · The VoiceFree Music Review: Adding Watson to my Classical CDs Hit: 5 Stars
I will only purchase a classical album that I can listen to continuously and not toss aside. As some reviewers have indicated, I too cannot understand how people will buy a CD and later criticize all of its drawbacks or listen to a friend's album and then make a special effort to write a critical review for the sake of classical music. But I don't want to waste my time with the critics. If you want an amazing array of music on one CD with an unbelievable way of singing each song with a different voice, then try Russell Watson. First, I would listen to some sample music, and, if it is not to your liking, then, do as the rest of us, dismiss it and find a recording that will give you the musical pleasure that you seek. My own personal CD collection consists of Pavarotti, Domingo, Alagna, Callas, among others. I am adding Watson to this collection because I enjoy his pure natural voice, as one reviewer so aptly described. Buy this album if you enjoy amazing versatility. If you are going to listen to every single note or flaw in Watson's voice, then leave it.
Free Music Review: Russell - the ultimate pop/classical crossover performer ! Hit: 5 Stars
As a former college DJ & Radio Ad Exec (now in my 40's) I've seen a lot of music go by, and this young tenor stopped me COLD! I heard Russell Watson on Good Morning America (4/20), days after his CD was released here; his MISERERE brought chills! I had to run out at lunch and buy the CD! (multiple copies, actually, for family & friends) The range, sweetness, power, and youthful vitality in his Voice are wonderful - but his truly unique gift (unlike a Sinatra or a Pavarotti, who could not have 'traded genres') is that Russell can sing arias such as "Nessun Dorma" & "La Donna e Mobile" with great verve and control, then switch SEAMLESSLY into a gentle, Celtic duet with Maire Brennan (CLANNAD), or cover a pop tune like "Vienna"! (you'd think it's multiple people singing, if you didn't read they were ALL Russell)You can HEAR how much fun he is having as he sings "Funiculi,Funicula"! I can already envision numerous duet partners as the years pass, as he can sing with ANYONE! RUSH OUT RIGHT NOW and get this CD - as RUSSELL will change your musical outlook PERMANENTLY.
Free Music Review: Russell Watson's a Gem Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard Russell Watson on his PBS Special and was so moved that I immediately bought the CD. I have also bought one as a gift for my brother. Some of the sourpusses who are so nasty in their criticisms might pay attention to what Mr Watson himself says about his singing. He makes no pretense of being a Pavorotti or Domingo, he states clearly that he is an entertainer and that indeed he is. I am a music lover of all kinds of music sans current Hard Metal noise, and I now have both of his CDs. And I am truly entertained. My late, and wonderful Sicilian father loved Panis Angelicus and when I first heard it, it brought back so many lovely and poignant memories, And Russell's Italian is quite impressive. . I would love to hear him in concert---especially singing some of his beautiful duets with his guest female artists-what a treat. So Crabbies, go ahead and criticize away; I suspect 95% of your reviews are negative regardless of whom is the artist-it 's probably your "calling" to print "put-downs". Hurray for Russell!!
Free Music Review: Russell Watson will put Bocelli out of business! Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard Russell Watson sing in a television commercial in which he was promoting his CD, "The Voice". Instantly stunned by the purity, power and splendor of his voice, I knew I simply had to buy his CD, and did so. Now it's all I listen to, and I can't wait for the next one. There isn't a throw-away song on this CD, and I'm hard-pressed to decide on my favorite. But what I notice most of all is that where Bocelli is simply a fine singer, Watson is a true communicator and entertainer who totally loves his audience and relates to them by taking them to another place, a place where they've never been before. In so doing, he achieves his stated goal of bringing opera to the masses and making it not only tolerable, but absolutely captivating. He's young and will only get better over time, and as long as he remains humble and as charming as he now clearly is, I believe he will enjoy a long and very successful career. Personally, I want to see him go on tour, and when he comes to San Francisco, you can bet I'll be there!
Free Music Review: The Amazing Voice Hit: 5 Stars
I heard Russell on Good Morning America the fall of 2001 and bought The Voice not knowing what to expect. I was amazed to tears at the depth of emotion, the clairty, the power, and the quality of sound he projects. And as I sat in my car and listened to each track I became even more amazed at the versatility of his voice. I am a 60s generation, so loved hearing Bridge Over Troubled Water.....but the operatic arias were what moved me the most! And the power in his voice takes one away! I have never listened to much opera in my life....but he has accomplished in me what he has said he wants to do....return opera to the people! I have now purchased a Pavarotti CD and one by Placido Domingo. The are obviously good, but I really prefer to listen to Russell Watson. I believe he is "more real, more human, more himself" than they are....at least their public persona. Actually I would give The Voice a 10 star rating! Even my little 4 year-old granddaughter asks to hear Mr. Russell! He is even better in concert live!
