Free Music Review: Best CD ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Russell Watson is one of the great tenors, in my opinion. Unfortunately, many people, including critics, don't take Watson seriously because they believe that publicity hype has made Watson popular and his informal training has made his singing equivalent to a rank amateur. In reality, compared to the cross-over classical singers such as Groban and Brightman and pure classical singers such as Pavarotti, Watson has had very little publicity and is still unkown in the United States but still manages to sell his CDs to a large audience. Whenever the critics mention his bad techniques, choppy phrasing. voiceless voice, and inexperience due to very little formal training, you can't help but feel that the critics are stretching a bit. But all of this becomes immaterial when you hear this man's glorious voice. If you love great singing, treat yourself to this excellent CD which covers a wide range of music from classical through pop. As expressed by many others,I have never heard a better CD than this.

Free Music Review: Best album I've heard
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD was released over a year ago, and it's still having reviews. If this album were as disappointing or bad as the critics say, it would have disappeared many moons ago. Usually, people will say it's bad and then forget about it. When the critics are still bad-mouthing this CD, I get the feeling like many other Watson supporters that it's really not a criticism but just individuals who cannot stand Russell's success. I can understand the advocates of Watson praising him left and right because all fans do the same thing but criticizing a year-old CD is just too much. I personally am not a fan of Watson, or for that matter, of Pavarotti, Brightman, Bochelli, Groban and all the other classical artists but I purchased the VOICE because I heard selections of this album and found it to be one of the best I have ever heard. I very seldom buy CDs but this one stood out for me. I actually was looking for an album by Groban because of the media hype but turned to Watson instead. I'm not sorry.

Free Music Review: This one is a keeper
Hit: 5 Stars

It is hard to find fault with such a glorious voice and album. Every cut is a gift. "Nella Fantasia", a classic performed by all the great tenors worldwide, is not a disappointment. My favorite is "Amor Ti Vieta". Watson's delivery is masterful. Rarely does a performer excel with such depth and maturity in the performance of such difficult material. Arrangements explode and soar in every selection giving Watson's superb voice rich support. "Barcelona" and "Vienna" are especially exciting. Freddie Mercury would have been honored by Watson's homage. Watson proves that he can hold his own with his strong delivery of "Non Ti Scordar Di Me". Critics may snub Watson because of his lack of "classical training" but I only applaude and am in awe of such vocal styling all the more! One only needs to listen to his "Nessun Dorma" to realize that Russell Watson is a voice that will not go away. He is a keeper!

Free Music Review: 'The Voice' Of A Thousand Words
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the first album to be released in the US by British opera singing sensation, Russell Watson.

As soon as anyone hears the word `opera', the image of an old, over-weight, beefy guy who sings only in Italian/Latin is concocted. Well, that stereotypical image is about to be blown away by this guy!

Russell Watson may sing opera, but that's where the similarities with other operatic singers seem to end. He is young, tall, dark and pretty damn handsome to boot! ;) He has a unique voice, which lends itself as easily to opera as it does to popular music.

The album `The Voice' has the perfect mixture between classical opera and a more modern sound. The final collection of songs complements each other perfectly. Russell Watson also has the uncanny ability to appeal to people of all ages, from the youngest of children to your great-grandmother.

The variety of songs means that there is almost something for everyone on this album! :) It's well worth the money!

Free Music Review: A classical music fan
Hit: 5 Stars

Some of the pro-Watson fans have said, just listen to it and if you do not like it, do not buy it. As a late buyer of this album, I first listened to a few sample selections, and, I personally enjoyed it very much. Something is really askew about all of these critical reviews being written about how disappointing and mediocre this CD is. No matter how much I dislike an artist, I generally can find some area of praise for the individual. The critics of Watson may be correct in that he isn't perfect in singing the pop tunes or the classical arias but if he were as horrendous as they say, I would not have purchased THE VOICE. I enjoy classical and some pop music, and, frankly, am a little offended by critics stating that people like myself are buying this album due to hype, misguided reasons, or ignorance. His Nella fantasia is beautiful, Caruso is done with feeling, and his Someone Like You duet with Higgins is remarkable. Watson is special and so is this album.
