Had the Music Gods willed Skinny Puppy to be a coffee house band...but perhaps it was, indeed, Ogre's own distaste for idolatry that prescribed us this fascinating absurdity. Even after more than a decade of Industrial succeeding where no other counter-culture could, that is, being cool without ever being too cool (admit your failures rock, punk, & hip hop) it was inevitable that someone would turn the finger back, just to be sure.
Bedside Toxicology takes our sinister manias and obscurities, our beloved rivets, and turns us into a bunch of ho-down hicks waking up next to skeye-hi hippies. The sun comes in through thin plastic, gleaming off acoustic guitars doubled as chamber pot pillows, and no one knows if we're coming down from sharp moonshine or sloppy acid. There will be moments toward the end when we'll be able to feel our ways back to the discord disco, but the damage will have been done.
It's a rare and wonderful thing when an album gives the music world what it deserves, regardless of what the artists or fans think they want. March down to the saints at Invisible Records today and see if you *truly* appreciate music by rule-breakers, because Rx breaks their rules, breaks them down just shy of powder, and just right for toys.
