Free Music Notes for CardinologyFree Music Review: Superb addition to the Adams chronology Hit: 5 Stars
I appreciate the various comments from other Adams aficionados, but still want to add my bit. "Cardinology" is as good an effort as any record that came out in 2008. You get the distinct impression that Ryan checked his demons at the studio door and used found refuge in the chords and melodies. The songs are expressive. Universal, yet personal. The musicianship is exceptional across the board. The best at their instruments? Doesn't matter. These guys cut a groove and then invite you to fall into it. Pop this into you ipod, rise early in the morning and find an out-of-the-way place to go walking, biking, whatever, and then let this music fill your head. Or better yet, do so in traffic or while sitting on the train. Ryan and Co. will carry you away. THAT to me is the mark of a good record. It takes you somewhere you would rather be.
The production is excellent, engineering as good as it gets. Balanced if not slightly saturated (which I happen to like), fully dimensional and yet cohesive. And I even like the CD cover. Not a fan of Adams? No matter. Listen to "Fix It," then listen again. Then again.

Free Music Review: Practically Perfect Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not sure what the demographics and qualifications of the consumer reviewers are on this site but I don't hold myself out as any more qualified. I will say, though, that I own almost everything Ryan Adams has released, from Whiskeytown on down. Like many "warm weather" fans, a number of the reviewers here somehow claim some metaphysical expertise in analyzing how "Cardinology" compares against his earlier work. Many of them would rather he'd re-released "Gold" with the songs played backwards. With almost each successive release, I am terribly pleased with all of his newer material. His stuff is so deep, diverse and rich - musically and lyrically - that the old stuff never gets old and the new seems to carve its own place in the burgeoning body of work. I'm on the site today to buy "29", which I somehow missed when I was so engaged in enjoying "Cold Roses" and "Jacksonville City Nights." "Cardinology" is Ryan Adams' musical synchronicity. If you see him and the Cardinals live, then you'll truly get it. Until then, get this release. You won't be sorry, whether you're a newbie fan or one that pines for some rescue blues.
Free Music Review: Ryan Adams and the Cardinals are Pure Magick Hit: 5 Stars
Ryan and the Cardinals strike again with another great album. This time Ryan and the gang turn up the amps and play more rock and roll. This album shows Ryan's classic rock and metal roots while staying true to what has made Ryan such a great artist....Great lyrics and a beautiful voice.
Ryan genuinely seems to be having fun on this record. There are many highlights, but the rock anthem "Magick" may be the highlight of the album. Ryan cranks up the energy and Neal Casal's great guitar work bring this tune home. In fact, Neal and Ryan's guitar work and great harmonizing vocals are apparent throughout the album. They really sound great together.
The first single from the album, "Fix It" is another instant classic. A great ballad about lost love, a common theme throughout Cardinology. Other highlights include the sparse "Crossed Out Name" and one of my favorite RA songs of all time, "Natural Ghost".
Absolutely a must-buy. A great effort from one of the best rock bands on the market right now.
Free Music Review: Easy Tiger, Part Deux Hit: 5 Stars
This to me could be Easy Tiger, Part Two...incidentally, East Tiger, along with Cardinology, are the only two Ryan Adams albums I've kept. I've bought a lot of his stuff and, in my humble opinion, most of it is a rambling mess. Cardinology does sound like an attempt at producing a more refined, focused and, gulp, commercial sound. But you still get yer country, folk, pop and rock all mashed together to produce some beautiful and, yes, catchy music. True, Side Two bogs a little, but Side One is awesome. I guess it becomes a question of which Ryan you like...the prolific but scattered sketchbook artist who releases tons of demos with some buried nuggets or the Ryan attempting to make the great but compromised (reigned in?) "classic" rock record. Both are underrated...
Free Music Review: have yet to take it out of my player Hit: 5 Stars
ryan adams has always been in my mind a brilliant songwriter. some would argue ryan has sold out. i would argue that ryan adams has become more polished and has grown and allowed his fan base to grow with him with this effort. this is probably my favorite album since love is hell part one and two. i believe he has taken the best of all his musical worlds to date and combined them to make a truly stunning album. the cardinals have grown into quite a nice little band that show nice versatility and man they are tight! if you do not believe me go to you tube and listen to some of the cuts off this album he has played on the letterman show. this record is a keeper and i would not hesitate to highly reccomend it to anyone. great job guys!
