Ryan Adams & The Cardinals-Cardinology
Too bad they will more than likely never play together again as Ryan Adams has officially broken up The Cardinals and right after they released their strongest album to date Cardinology. The classic rock meets Gram Parsons influenced Lp is ages ahead and behind anything the band had released in the past.
Tracks like love sick 'Go Easy' and the rocking 'Magick' paired with the delicate 'Natural Ghost' make for one hell of an album full of ups and downs. While some of the album suffers from sounding the exact same as a whole Cardinology succeeds at doing everything it sets out to do: be the best Whiskeytown album not recorded by Whiskeytown.
Free Music Review: needs a 2nd listen Hit: 4 Stars
i bought the cd on the 28th,popped it into my cd player in my truck,my first reaction was "well its ok"this morning i listened to it on the way to work,it is starting to grow on me.it has a mix of styles, country, pop, hard rock.i am 53 years old, started listening to ryan adams in whiskeytown.he is hard to categorize.but "cardinology"is a very good album in its own rite.don't listen to it and expect "gold"or "cold roses".if you do that you are not giving a chance.i am sure it will become a favorite just like the above albums
Free Music Review: decent not great, at least so far Hit: 4 Stars
Being a big fan, I see this album as fairly average for a ryan adams album after a few listens. Maybe if he took a little more time between albums the quality wouldnt be sacrificed as much. This seemed to be what happened with 29 which had a few great songs but was mostly filler.
That said, I can only offer my final opinion after a more listens.
Free Music Review: RYAN version 3.7 Hit: 4 Stars
Thank god Ryan Adams has sobered up enough to record some really happy, uplifting songs. This cd doesn't sound a lot like his old stuff, there's almost no alt-country influence, but it's groovey, more care-free and a lot happier sounding. If you don't feel like buying it, at least do yourself a favor and download "born into a light".

A great effort from Ryan Adams in the tradition of Gold & Cold Roses. Some excellent soulful tracks here, and some great rockers. Highly recommended. If possible get the vinyl record as Ryan Adams was made to be listened to on vinyl.
