Free Music Review: This Band has Found New Life!

I first fell in love with the Saga "sound" when Heads Or Tales came out - for me, this defines Saga. I am pleased to say that with "House of Cards" Saga seem to have recaptured some of this sound, something that had been missing from many of their 90's releases (with the exception of "Security of Illusion"). I love everything these guys record, if only for the expert musicianship (guitarists take note: Ian Crichton is impossibly gifted), but they seemed to be lacking direction for a while. "House of Cards" is influenced by many of their past endeavours yet remains a tight album with some of the best production values we have seen on a Saga album in some time. While "Pleasure & The Pain" and "Detours" are painful to listen to (there was no excuse for "Detours" because "In Transit" set the standard long ago), "House of Cards" shines, brilliantly showing off each band member's abilities. This is why the album succeeds. Not as commercial of an album as the single "Money Talks" might suggest, "House of Cards" is simply a classy album that will not disappoint any Saga fan. For those who may only be slightly familiar with Saga, I would recommend picking up these albums in this order: 1. Worlds Apart 2. Heads or Tales 3. The Security of Illusion 4. House of Cards (HOC is fourth because it contains elements from the other three).
