Free Music Review: Classic Aussie punk

The Saints are more obscured than the more common (still obscure) punk bands. For fans of the genre this album is a must have. The title is the bands famous track and a stone cold classic, the catchy descending chorus surprises you when you first hear. As far as non American-British punk bands, there was a small network of groups in Australia, like Radio Birdman. For all intents and purposes, The Saints are the Aussie Ramones although even more garage rock oriented. Drenched in that fuzzy distorted guitar, the albums rips away in with one great track after another. There isnt alot going on melodically, but the 2 "ballad" type songs, which arent really ballads but follow a more slow tempo Messin' With The Kid and Story Of Love are the two other best songs on the record besides the title cut, really gives a good insight into the bands other musical senses. The last 2 tracks on the album Demolition Girl and Nights In Venice segueway into eachother and really steal the show lasting almost 6 minutes of punk jamming, you might find yourself wondering how long it will go on. Creating one big blast showcase that seems to prolong the ending because the band is just having so much fun.
But even for punk historians if you havent found this band yet, do not hesitate. Although it wasn't a mainstream phenenomen, punk inspired millions who wanted true rock n roll and there is always another band waiting to be discovered. The band ventured into 2 more musically varied but still essential punk records and the singer reformed a new line up with a more basic rock n roll sound in the 80s but this would be the first choice for unaware seekers. After youre done with the Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, and Buzzcocks albums, the Saints should be next.
