Free Music Review: This is not your nu-metal Saliva, kids.

First, let me say that I was NOT a Saliva fan when I bought this album. It beckoned to me from across the aisle in Best Buy. Their songs from their first two albums were OK, but they were too 'rappy' for me to really enjoy on a deeper level. If you like smashmouth rock and roll G'n'R style with some Lynryd Skynrd influence, THIS is a must buy album. When I popped the CD into my truck deck, I was blown away by the first track "Rock and Roll Revolution". I had to double check the CD cover to be sure this was indeed Saliva.
The entire album is outstanding. They threw in a couple of ballads that work nicely too, sandwiched in between some brutal tunes. Josey Scott's vocals impressed me much more on this album than the first two. I think he was going for more the "limp bizkit" sound in the first two albums. The guitar work is better in the sense that it's a little more intricate and the guitarists are allowed to shine a little more than in previous albums. Mind you, no one will mistake Chris D'abaldo or Wayne Swinny for Zakk Wylde or Joe Perry, but it's pleasing to the ear nonetheless. Paul Ebersold (3 Doors Down, Scorpion King soundtrack) produced the album, and he's done an oustanding job with it.
This album could be a tough swallow for your more typical Saliva fan, but for people who like your rock and roll 'kick 'em in the teeth' style and with no apologies, THIS IS A MUST GET ALBUM.
