Free Music Notes for Complete Recordings of Sam Cooke with the Soul StirrersFree Music Review: Gospel at its Purest and Best! Hit: 5 Stars
I initially became interested in this set after hearing just seconds of a song in a movie. It is one of the best music purchases I've made in ten years! All genres of music in recent years is so over proccessed to the point where if you heard the person live you wouldn't recognize the voice, but Sam and the Soul Stirrers are so talented and open with their delivery of every song that you can't help but appreciate the honesty. Even the jacket information adds to the set by adding historical and social connections to times the songs were done. This is definitely worth much more than I paid for it.
Free Music Review: AWESOME COLLECTION OF A LEGENDARY GROUP AND A LEGENDARY SINGER Hit: 5 Stars
I love it!!! It a great collections of songs by a legendary groupin their own rights. If you like great gospel quartet singers, Sam Cooke and the soul stirrers are one of the best in their time. It refreshing to hear this great gospel quartet. A blend of harmonizing voices. Their collabration in voice is wonderful. When they sing acapella, the blend of voices is perfect harmony. The collection is great. You even hear the live recordings of Sam Cooke and Soul stirrers. There is a small book enclosed that records the history of their humble begininings. You should get you a set today!!!!!!
Free Music Review: The Birth of Soul Hit: 5 Stars
This is the heart of soul singing. There is not a bad or boring track on this CD Box Set. Sam Cooke was the inspiration for nearly every soul singer you will ever hear. If you think you know his work from You Send Me and his pop work, you are in for a surprise. These are some of the finest recording he ever made and they all pre-date You Send Me. The Soul Stirrers had been around for decades when Sam joined them and this is the finest example of their work. Sam fairly floats like a jazz singer over their meaty chords. Yet this is not jazz, this is gospel and you will cherish every word.
Free Music Review: Sam is alright with me Hit: 5 Stars
I knew this collection was special when it was the only thing that my husband would play. I had to buy it for him! He likes old school but he isn't a gospel-listening regular. Sam's main stream music doesn't compare, something about singing for the Lord. Sam and the Soul Stirrers capture the somewhat lost art of keeping it soulful, and all about praising our Father above. The albums contain alot of the old school favorites you still sing in church today. It's a beautiful compilation that makes you feel blessed listening to it. I am so glad my husband put me on it.
Free Music Review: The Sam Cooke gospel anthology Hit: 5 Stars
As a lifelong fan of Sam Cooke, I have looked for a way to enjoy all of the great music that he created in his brief gospel career without purchasing a number of CDs. This collection has allowed me to accomplish that. This set showcases the vast talent of these men and from time to time, gives a peek behind the curtain of the finished recordings.
My only criticism of the collection is that several secular songs (certainly not the best of those that Sam Cooke recorded) are tossed into the middle of one of the disks, throwing off the feel and flow.
