Free Music Review: One Night Stand
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is incredible! I always loved Sam Cooke but find his studio work a little too polished. When you hear him live, however, he is raw, raw, raw. His voice is so much grittier and his delivery fits in more with the soul of the music. The breaks between songs where he ad-libs and talks to the audience really add to the atmosphere and it is obvious from audience reaction how much they are loving it too. You get a wide selection of his songs, so can get a real feel to how his music should be heard. This is such a good soul album and a great recording of a legend. Highly, highly recommended.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Free Music Review: ONE NIGHT STAND...ONE GREAT MAN!
Hit: 5 Stars

THE KING OF SOUL MAKES A TRIUMPHANT RETURN! THIS CD TOTALLY ROCKS. THE CLARITY ON THIS CD IS GREAT FROM THE "INTRO TO THE LET-GO"!SAM IS IN TOTAL COMMAND IN EACH AND EVERY TRACK.THE GROOVES ON THIS CD ARE UNMISTAKEABLY SAM COOKE. ON "DON'T FIGHT THE FEELING" THE GROOVE WAS SO INFECTIOUS I FOUND MYSELF SINGING IT IN MY OFFICE WHILE USING MY MOUSE AS A MICROPHONE! LET ME WARN YOU, IF YOU'RE EXPECTING THE SILKY SMOOTHE SINATRA-ESQUE COOKE THAT WE'RE ALL ACCUSTOMED TO FROM THE 1957 HIT, "YOU SEND ME"... FORGET IT! THIS IS SAM AT HIS RAWEST AND GRITTIEST. HE IS USHERING IN THE LIKES OF OTIS REDDING,WILSON PICKETT AND ROD STEWART.THIS IS AN AMERICAN LEGEND...AN AMERICAN BAD-ASS!

Free Music Review: BEST LIVE RECORD EVER
Hit: 5 Stars

I agree with Mr. Sullivan about who cares about some specific sounds at a live performance,... its raw, sweety, aggressive, compasionate, ITS ROCK AND ROLL!! ....today's new soul artist should buy this CD, take notes, and learn from it,.. (r&b singers are too cheezy now...) Listening to this CD, you are going back when the male soul singers were real men,.. no fakes like today's singers who just want to show off high vocal ranges like a bad imitator of Eddy Valen on the guitar. This Live show does not have any pyrotechnics,...and thats why I love it,.. Sam Cooke is by far my favorite soul singer... (I dont have nothing else to say,... so BUY IT NOW!)

Free Music Review: Sam's Still Cookin'
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a masterpiece - absolutely timeless. Sure some of the songs sound strangely similar to one another, but Sam Cooke had a formula for making unbelievable music - why stray away? Certainly studio Sam Cooke is soul, but until you've heard live Sam Cooke, you can't even begin to understand soul music. Sam might have died over forty years ago, but this album has enshrined both his legacy and the legacy of true soul music for all time. No true music lover can be without this album.

Free Music Review: Back to His Roots
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my favorite secular cd of Sam's. He seems to be coming full circle. His voice had matured and the cd had a more soul and gospel, and raw feel - you know, like unassimilative black music. I love his other works, but his vocals seems to be watered down to appeal to the mainstream audience.

I understand he had to have two faces. One for his folks, the real self, and a water down version for the mainstream(mo money).
