Free Music Review: Oh, so close to perfection
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not giving any Sam Cooke compilation that's this comprehensive less than five stars, but I personally prefer the tune stack from "A Man and His Music," and wish they'd just remastered that with some annotation included. Why, oh, why did they have to omit "Soothe Me," "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day," or "When a Boy Falls in Love" (I don't care HOW shmaltzy that song is, it's a beautiful Cooke performance).

Nevertheless, this collection is pretty spectacular, and the sound is definitely better, so I guess I'm just going to have to dig up those other tunes on other albums.

Free Music Review: It's About Time!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, okay, the person who let Sam's great "Man and his Music" CD go out of print can have their job back! This is basically the same track listing with a few substitutions and vastly improved sound. Unfortunately "Soothe Me" is the most egregious omission, but with 30 tracks, I believe I'll survive. If you are even remotely interested in buying a Sam Cooke CD, click right now to save your soul. Once you hear Sam tear up the first song, "Touch the Hem of his Garment," you'll know the meaning of heaven on earth. Dollar for dollar, song for song, you will not find a better deal on a CD as long as you live!!!!

Free Music Review: One of My Best CDs!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm listening to this CD right now while sweeping - I can't stop dancing with the broom and singing along! I'm 61 years old, and have many CDs of music from my generation, the 50's and 60's. They're all good, but this is the one that's easiest to sing along with, so I enjoy it more.
I especially love his biggest hits, You Send Me, Only Sixteen, Cupid, What a Wonderful World, Chain Gang (it scares my dogs when I sing those UHs!), Bring it on Home to Me (I especially love that one!) and, of course, the beautiful, A Change is Gonna Come.
If YOU'RE an oldie, this is the best oldie CD you can get!

Free Music Review: Great voice!
Hit: 5 Stars

I always wondered who was that voice I heard in the oldies stations, now I know, Sam Cooke is indeed a legend and this CD is proof, this CD is great cause it tells how each song came about and how he would write ideas and lyrics for songs on paper napkins, "You Send Me" is classic, "Cupid" has such a lovely chorus, "A Change Gonna Come" is a deep ballad, these are just a few of my favorites, many of his songs are so relevant today and stand the test of time, and if you're so enamored by his voice, as I am, there's a 30 second interview at the end where he hums his soul...check it out!

Free Music Review: Sam Cooke remains one of my favorite male singers of all time
Hit: 5 Stars

If you're a Sam Cooke fan this CD definitely belongs in your collection. It mostly has his popular hits in it, but there are a couple of his gospel songs. An addition I truly appreciated was the booklet that came with the CD. It gave 'the story behind the music'. For example, did you know Sam was stuck in a London hotel room on a Saturday night when he wrote Another Saturday night, and I ain't got nobody...Well, it seems the hotel didn't allow female visitors in the rooms and Sam was a bit lonely. And the song simply came to him. I'm always curious about the creative process.
