Hagar has not only kept going despite of age. He's gotten better, leaving behind the synth-dominated dated schlock of his Van Halen days to make perhaps his heaviest music since the glory days of Montrose. Not 4 Sale is another link in the chain. Not only do the Waboritas sound tighter than ever (Mona and David Lauser are the best rhythm section to back up Hagar since... ever!), but for the first time on a Hagar solo album there is an actual group atmosphere. Not to mention, in a rare moment of subtlety, Hagar uses accoustic guitars on the well-written Things've Changed and Whole Lotta Zep. In another first, while keyboards are used, they are not used front and center in the obnoxious fashion of Van Hagar. Furthermore, he takes a stab at psychadelic flourishes, and a bit of social commentary, on Hallelujah, and an ode to southern rock on The Big Nail. Of course he also gets down to old fashioned Red rocking on Stand Up, the title track, Make It Alright, and The Big Square Inch. All of which are produced wonderfully by Bob Daspit.

The bottom line is this is definetely one of the top five Hagar albums ever, and certainly the best since he's left Van Halen (with Ten-13 a close second). While some of the weaknesses are stil there (The Red Rocker is still not much of a lyricist) his voice remains in great shape and no album he's done has been quite as ambitious or quite as melodic. Therefore, buy this album! It will be enough to make you scream "HALLELUJAH!"
