Free Music Review: Great Beach CD

THis CD isnt his best ROCKING music, but it is the best lifestyle CD he has made. hes done great on the covers and it just made for an all around awesome beach album. BBQ'in, Driving to the beach, waiding at the pool; all great places to listen to this CD.
HIGHLIGHTS:
SAM I AM: Very awesome song to listen to as a hagar fan. The more you listen to it, the more subtext you read into and how the song is all about the RED ROCKERS history and life.
LIVIN ON A COASTLINE: My 3rd favorite on the ablum. Written all by Hagar and a great catchy beat with the songs title "Livin It Up". Buffet Meets... well Hagar.
MEXICO: A truly rockin song comparable to a mix of Cabo Wabo, and ON THE OTHER HAND with a sort of CLUB kick.
THE WAY WE LIVE: My personal favorite. A true toast to the Red heads (sammy fans). Even if your not, a fun beach loving song praising the beach and beach bums.
RAINY DAY WOMAN: A MAS TEQUILLA'ish staple of his live shows that finally comes to CD. A great LIVE SONG, not as great recorded, but still fun. Involves alot of instruments outside the traditional that makes it feel very tipsy.
ONE SIP: A song he co-wrote with kenny Chesney (the country singer) and it is evident in the song. The SOng itself is fun and cool, but a little too country for my taste. Was more likable after 3rd or 4th listen.
SAILIN: I personally can't listen to this song during bright sunny days. Its a great song for sunset and after dark. Very Bluesy, like an even more bluesy of SITTIN ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY. Very cool to listen to to, relaxing.
LET ME TAKE YOU THERE: I LOVE THIS. THis song is kickin and I just love it. Can listen to it over and over. Very Cabo Waboish. Nothing makes you want to go to the beach more than this song. More Upbeat than most of the alblum and probably the second or third biggest rockin, which isnt saying much, as its somewhat collect.
SOMEDAY: He finally recorded this song. He wrote this when Back in VAN HALEN during the Balance era. Great song, and sings it with his Son Aaron Hagar. Great song. Very much a lower song. I would consider this to be the most serious song on the alblum and its "love" song. The slower beat and deeper message.
I LOVE THIS BAR, HALFWAY TO MEMPHIS are not that great. I love this bar was not different enough to be worthy to be covered. if he were to cover this song, he shouldnt have made it country at all. Its a country song, so to make it worthy of your record, turn it into a rock song, not just play it the same way it was played before. And Halfway To Memphis was done on his last alblum. Not neccessary to do again. Was not a hightlight of either alblum, probably my least favorite on the last one (NOT 4 SALE), much less this one.
OVerall a great alblum. The other songs are so good I would still give it 5 stars cuase its sammy, however probably more like 4.5 stars. I know I will listen to it for a long time for a long period of time, Id feel unjustified to give it a lower rating. Good Job OVerall Sammy! Make your next one a more rockin one, but good addition to the catalog.

Get into the Cabo Wabo spirit with a brand new solo album of high-powered studio material from legendary hard rock frontman and guitarist extraordinaire Sammy Hagar!Having long ago earned his rock wars stripes as working class foil and foiled Van Halen superstar, Sammy Hagar finally understands who's laughing best. A half-dozen albums into a post-VH second solo career where Hagar has sometimes seemed more like Dorian Grey than Red Rocker Redux, the veteran rocker kicks off his shoes again--along with some longstanding presumptions. Hagar succeeds here by nimbly channeling the Ghost of Jimmy Buffet Whenever--even if the veteran rocker's Gulf of California acoustic blues is about as authentic as Robert Johnson's Delta surfing legend. The opening "Sam I Am" sets the tone, a slice of slide-guitar autobio-blues that borrows from the folks who stole it from the people who nicked it from the southern blues masters; Sammy's "Ice Cream Man," if you can forgive him (and after his greasy cover of Dylan's "Rainy Day Women" you might not). Hagar does a subtler job suggesting the spirit of Brian Wilson via the harmonies of the loping "Living On a Coastline," channels a little faux Tennessee twang into "Halfway to Memphis" before a thoroughly Hagar-ized cover of the Pointers "I'll Take You There" and the surprisingly tender lullaby "Some Day" close the album out on a high note. With tracks like "I Love This Bar" and "One Sip," it's a party-hearty record whose crafty appeal seems to vary in direct proportion to one's number of empty cerveza bottles. This is music with a purpose: to make sunburned drunks dance badly. Sober pale people take heed. -- Jerry McCulley
