Free Music Review: Best Santana Album in the Amigos-Shango Period

Santana's Marathon is a consistenly enjoyable album presenting a wide palette of emotion and intensity of music. The short but explosive title track kicks things off, followed by the uptempo starts and stops of "Lightning in the Sky." Next is the gorgeous, gentle "Aqua Marine," a good song to chill to. Next are the two "hits" from the album, the poppish "You Know That I Love You" (which has an excellent closing section) and the spirited "All I Ever Wanted." The remaining tracks are highlighted by the pumped "Stand Up" and the smooth "Summer Lady." I disagree with other reviewer's opinions about Alex Ligertwood's vocals - he was one of Santana' better singers, along with Rolie and Walker.
Marathon is a well-played, excellently recorded gem from Santana's late 70s/early 80s era.
