This set forms exactly the period in which Santana was most influenced by jazzrock, starting whith the supreme coherent Caravanserai,then joining John McLaughlin on Love Devotion Surrender, followed by Welcome, in fact the best of the set, although less coherent in the sense of being an album: the tracks are very different in style, but are all very good! (Alice Coltrane & John McLauhglin are guests among many others). The following album, Illuminations, he made with Alice Coltrane is not in this set. Borboletta is a very warm album which deserves more attention. Amigos stil contains the jazzrock influences but is also a turning point from latin jazzrock to latin funk, cuban and even flamengo. The famous Europa is from this album.
But: better buy these albums seperate. It sounds nice, 5 original classics with original art in a box, but 4 out of 5 albums did have in the vinyl version fold out packages and Borboleta had originally an inside paper sleeve with details. Here you get only the front and back covers, without any information on the musicians, except on Love Devotion Surrender. For Borboletta they even used only a part of the beautiful cover. So don's buy this for the package!!
