Free Music Notes for Ultimate SantanaFree Music Review: Great songs, but... Hit: 4 Stars
Carlos Santana has very few bad albums, or even bad songs. (Stay away from his collaboration with John McLaughlin though.) If you're looking for a one-disk compilation and are familiar with his later songs plus his late 60's hits, the songs here will be familiar.
But... try Caravanserai, Borboletta, or some of his other unbelievable albums from "in between". If this is all you know of Carlos Santana, you have a lot to discover! What you hear on this disk is just an introduction. I give this review 4 stars rather than 5 not because there are bad songs on this CD (there aren't), but because you, as a Santana listener, deserve more.
Free Music Review: Good--But Heavy on Recent Stuff Hit: 4 Stars
The new 'greatest' by Santana sounds outstanding--crystal-clear and pulsing with energy and sound. The standards are on here, and they sound great. However, I do not think this collection represents the best of Santana. There is too much of his newer (collaborative) material, and while I enjoy the new songs, they are not as strong as his early music. While this is ultimately a satisfying album, I would not consider it the definitive collection of the Great Carlos Santana's works.
Four stars. Good, not great.
Free Music Review: Ultimate Santana-The CD Hit: 4 Stars
Any Santana fan will enjoy this CD. It has all the Greatest Hits and some surprise vocalists that do a good job performing the voicals while Santana performs his rythmical magic. The only song I was a little dissapointed in wasTina Turners performance of The Game of Love. Michelle Branch is so much more suited for this song and does a much better job! All in all, excellent listening and entertainment!
Free Music Review: Nice compliation Hit: 4 Stars
While this CD may not appeal to hardcore fans of Santana, I found it to be a very nice blend of some early works, and some recent stuff including some unreleased tracks. I thought Jennifer Lopez's contribution was some of her best work. Tina Turner and Steven Tyler also work well. This disc is a nice addition for new or casual fans, but it may also make some long-time Santana fans happy too.
Free Music Review: New fan loving the disc Hit: 4 Stars
I am somewhat new to Carlos Santana, introduced to him years ago with Smooth and promptly forgotten. I find this CD to be a wonderful compilation of his work. I know little about Carlos Santana's previous albums or his personal life but I still am amazed by his guitar solos, featured guest singers, and the general feelings of his songs.
