Free Music Notes for A Winter SymphonyFree Music Review: A winter symphony Hit: 5 Stars
After being disappointed with SYMPHONY, Sarah Brightman reminded me why I love her music with her new holiday album A WINTER SYMPHONY. A WINTER SYMPHONY is a collection of traditional Christmas music as well as a few non-Christmas tracks. What I didn't like about SYMPHONY was the flow of the album. It was choppy and all over the place. A WINTER SYMPHONY has a much more even, cohesive flow. The songs Sarah chose for this album did not disappoint me. I really loved her interpretations of "Silent Night", "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring", and "Ave Maria" (by herself). I especially love "Silent Night". Her delicate vocals really shines through on this song. I get the chills everytime I listen to this beautiful song. The one song I could have lived without was Sarah's duet with Fernando Lima on "Ave Maria". It wasn't bad but I definitely preferred her solo version. Fernando's vocals was a bit too distracting for me. As always the artwork is stunning to say the very least. With Christmas right around the corner, A WINTER SYMPHONY will be making my holiday shopping a lot more bearable when I do my shopping while listening to my ipod.

I have in my collection at least two-dozen Christmas seasonal CDs, but this is the best. No. 2 was a 1997 Christmas concert in Vienna featuring Brightman and Placido Domingo.
Brightman has a unique ability to interpret classical music so that it touches exactly the right spot in the human heart. And she can lift popular and even rock music to levels unattained by anyone else, as she does on several well-known tunes in this CD.
As a Protestant, I must admit I was never a big fan of the song Ave Maria until now. Brightman's Ave Maria duet with Fernando Lima early in the CD is surpassed only by her heart-seizing solo performance on a different arrangement of the song later on.
And then there are arrangements of Silent Night, Amazing Grace and Child in a Manger that are absolutely the best.
This woman has it all: The world's best soprano range, superb taste in song selection, and ability to blend so well in duets that she helps make an excellent partner like Lima, for four minutes at least, sound like the best male vocalist in the world.
Astounding performance!
Free Music Review: Will send winter chills up your spine! Hit: 5 Stars
Winter Symphony is one of the most amazing Christmas albums I've ever heard, mostly because Sarah Brightman sings the traditional carols as they were written and are to be sung. Once again, her voice is flawless and beautiful. She obviously knows what works for her and what doesn't, although I can't imagine a song that wouldn't suit her well. "In the Bleak Mid Winter" and "I've Been This Way Before" stand out as my favorites on the CD. Though IBTWB may not be considered a Christmas song, it devinately evokes a wintry feel. With so much junk dominating the airwaves, it makes you realize what music is supposed to sound like when you listen to SB. The difference between SB and other artits (or who consider themselves artists) is that she can actually sing. Her extensive background in the theatre along with her perfect voice makes for a consistent album everytime, and "Winter Symphony" is no exception. Listening to this album makes me want to throw all my other non SB CD's in the trash.
Free Music Review: STUNNING! Hit: 5 Stars
After reading a few of the other reviews I decided that I needed to give this album my own review. This is not a "Traditional" holiday cd, no, "Frosty The Snowman" or "Little Drummer Boy". Even though I would have loved to hear Sarah sing these favorites, this is really a true holiday album. If you loved Sarah McLachlan's amazing "Wintersong" cd you will love "A Winter Symphony". While "Silent Night" and her fabulous version of "Child In A Manger" are simply beautiful, I love the original compositions such as "Arrival","Colder Than Winter" and especially "I've Been This Way Before". These songs set the mood for a journey into winter and of course the holiday season. Ignore the reviews that say this album is full of "Ballads", these songs are appropriate for the season and year round. Listen to the melodies and especially the lyrics and you will find yourself in a much happier and festive mood. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Guilty Pleasure! Loving Every Minute Hit: 5 Stars
As a teenager, I bought Sarah Brightman's first solo single in 1979 (Adventures of the Love Crusader) and over the years have been amazed by her reinvention, though not having been a huge fan.
When I found out she was doing a cover of ABBA's Arrival, I had to buy it. It's luscious visually and audio-wise. Thank you for rescuing the Neil Diamond song for otherwise I would not have heard it. I play this one endlessly.
The album is a nice mix of original and traditional gems. There are the hymns, the contemporary ballads with some jolly Christmas classics. I don't know what other listeners were expecting but this is one of the better Christmas albums in recent years (Aimee Mann's was too downbeat, Sarah McLaughlin's was too sombre/sad, Linda Ronstadt's second half choral was too dull, Olivia Newton John's was a bi too mish-mash and unambitious in arrangement). Get this!
