Free Music Review: Worthy followup to Time To Say Goodbye
Hit: 5 Stars

An otherwordly paradise-like affect, complete with a sitar, sets the stage for Eden, a worthy followup to Sarah's masterpiece, Time To Say Goodbye.

The three covers on this album are Hooverphonic's "Eden", Kansas' "Dust In The Wind" and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," only this song is sung in Italian as "Il Mio Cuore Va", making it more exotic and intriguing. It starts out in her pop voice before blooming in its full glory in her resonant operatic vocal at the emotionally climactic part of the song.

The medieval choir and Sarah's voice makes her rendition of "Eden" far superior than the original by Hooverphonic.

"Bailero" is an effective interlude that precedes the two other cover songs, which are back-to-back, by the way. The same thing is achieved with "Scene D'Amour", which bridges the emotionally potent "Only An Ocean Away" and "Nessun Dorma". The crescendo that is reached when she sings the chorus is similar to the emotional climax in "Il Mio Cuore Va" but with lesser effect.

"Deliver Me" began life here before becoming such a theme in the movie Brokedown Palace. More mainstream people who expect Eden or any of her other albums to be like "Deliver Me" had better have an appreciation of her opera voice.

The Richard Marx-penned "The Last Words You Said" closes the album and is a precious nugget wrapped around lush string arrangements.

Vocal styles: Her lovely opera voice is put to great effect on "Anytime, Anywhere", "Il Mio Cuore Va", "Nella Fantasia", "Lascia Ch'io Pianga", and Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" Everything else is in her pop voice.

As on her post-Fly albums, an orchestra boosts her lovely vocals, and on Eden, it is the English National Orchestra. While I place this below Time To Say Goodbye and La Luna, Eden still has its special place in paradise.

Free Music Review: Excellent Brightman
Hit: 5 Stars

I, like many, discovered Sarah through Phantom. After she left the show, I followed her solo efforts. From "Dive" on, she has made some very interesting choices during her solo career. Every one knows of her breakthrough smash, "Time to Say Goodbye" with Andrea Bocelli. The album with the same name was also very special for Sarah fans. We finally heard her go back to the heights of her voice that so wooed us in Phantom. As good as "Time" is however, "Eden" is better. If you are looking for an album that truly showcases Sarah and her magnificant instrument, that clear soprano, buy "Eden".

"Eden" is a journey into a wonderous world of beautiful music. Frank Patterson, her producer, understand how to blend Sarah unique styles into a collage of beauty. From the very beginning of the cd, Sarah begins to draw you into her world. Her "Eden". From the covers of some popular artist, Hooverphonic and Kansas, to the use of opera in Puccini, Sarah shows you why she is one of the finest sopranos in music today. My personal favorites on the cd are "Lascia Ch'lo Pianga" and "Deliver Me." Also, she gives great "girl power" to "Nessun Dorma" a song made for tenors. The only curious selection on the cd is her rendition of "My Heart Will Go On" in italian. However, that is the only weak point on the entire album. The duet with Richard Marx is another very fine high point, added only to the US version of the cd.

If you are just starting out with Brightman, buy this cd first. It is a better feel of her. She shows you more of her "pop" side, but that side of her in no way takes away from her operatic appeal. "Time to Say Goodbye" should be included in your purchase of Sarah, but if you are going one at a time, get this one first.

Free Music Review: VINCERO!
Hit: 5 Stars

This follow-up to timeless has(not surprisingly) been a huge success! The music nymph Sarah Brightman never ceases to haunt me with that beautiful siren voice of hers. This album is truely a sensation.

In Paridisum- the soft, dark, pastoral, new-age touch is very evocative and very relaxing. One cannot help but to be overcome by the haunting, ethereal sound of Sarah's voice and the music.

Bailero- Lovely! You feel yourself walking in the sunshine in the French countryside!

Dust in the Wind- A wonderful, theatrical piece and the lyrics have very profound meaning.

Il Mio Cuore Va- A stunning interpretation of My Heart Will Go On! With the adapted Italian lyrics, and Sarah's gradual move from her "little-girl" pop voice at the beginning to her operatic soprano at the last verse, the song takes on a very different feeling. Love songs are much more romantic when you can't really understand what the lyrics mean, in my opinion.

Un Jour Viendra- lovely French song that alternates pop and opera.

Only an Ocean Away- A very epic love song! This ballad has a lot of pop instruments but still sounds nice. And it has the perfect amount of drama!

Scene d'amour- This is so, so beautiful! Relaxing, intimate, quiet, but deeply emotional and romantic, this is perfect for accompanying a romantic interlude.

Nessun Dorma- VINCERO!!! This was amazing!!! This aria composed for a tenor works splendidly for a soprano! I saw Sarah's La Luna concert and the way she staged Nessun Dorma was BREATHTAKING!!!!!! Fantastico!!!

The Last Words You Said To Me- A soft, quiet, and very romantic duet!

The whole recording is an escape to Eden! Marvelous!

Please disregard all of the snippy, ...... little comments of the Amazon.Com "editorial reviewer" (such as "The result, bless her heart, may be the invention of a whole new form of kitsch.") That reviewer needs to go find a life somewhere--and maybe consider some serious counseling. Make no mistake, this album is absolutely wonderful. Brightman's voice is the closest thing to that of an angel you're likely to hear this side of heaven.

When a friend recently loaned me Ms. Brightman's newest album, "La Luna," it was the first time I'd ever heard her sing, and I decided to purchase both that album and "Eden" right away. "La Luna" is a great album, too, but I have to say I like "Eden" better. "Eden" shows Ms. Brightman's tremendous range and versatility; with songs like her lovely rendition of "Dust in the Wind" (Brightman outdid Kansas!) and "Only an Ocean Away," she demonstrates a sure grasp of pop music. In "Nella Fantasia," Brightman puts words to a beautiful piece of music by Ennio Morricone (from the soundtrack of the movie "The Mission"). The result, again, is very, very beautiful. In a another great track, Ms. Brightman adds words to a favorite classical piece of mine, Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

Ms. Brightman, you're a marvel and a delight. I'm beginning to think you could sing to me from a soup can label or the telephone book and it would still be sheer heaven.

By all means, buy the album "Eden " (and "La Luna," too, if you can) and then just sit back and enjoy. You're in for a real treat.
