Free Music Review: Outstanding Concert from a Talented Lady
Hit: 5 Stars

I was lucky to attend the Atlanta show of Afterglow this summer. When I saw that Sarah McLachlan was doing another live album, I was ecstatic! To be able to relive this concert any time I want is the most exciting feeling. Sarah is extremely talented vocally and instrumentally. Her band compliments her very well, and the ensemble has a great balance. The arrangements of the music aren't exactly the same as a studio recorded cd, which is a nice change. The feeling of Sarah's music is one of peace and tranquility. She is one of the most talented artists of our time, and with so much other "trash" music in the market, it's nice to know that someone can record quality music. Every song on the cd is outstanding. Like an earlier review, I would have liked to have heard a few more selections from Solace, but for any "new" Sarah fan, this is a great place to start your collection. I can't wait to hear more from this talented musician. Plus, Sarah is a giving artist, as her talents support so many worhtwhile causes such as VH 1 Save the Music as well as Human Rights organizations. We need to all do what we can and take example from her!

By the way, does anyone know what kind of guitar she is pictured with on the cover of Afterglow Live? If it's a Taylor, what's the model number? I'm in the market for one. Thanks. :-)

Free Music Review: Amazing... as always.
Hit: 5 Stars

This live album is better in aspect of being an album versus Mirrorball. Her Mirrorball performance was amazing, as was Afterglow. Afterglow was electrifying really, moreso after seeing her perform her songs live for her Afterglow Tour (sorry to those who didn't get to see her).

Two discs means more songs, as it does put ten songs on a disc giving more time to the songs and allowing more coverage of the performance. (Mirrorball was only 14 tracks.) It doesn't mean they put the entire performance into the album, but still a good coverage.

Though, seeing Sarah live is unmatched, but hearing her live is at least somewhat closer ;)

Live renditions of her songs are always a pleasure to hear, if you liked Afterglow and/or haven't heard her Mirrorball album, this is definitely something you should think about getting. Sarah does sit down for the piano for most of this performance, beautifully. My favorite from her performance was "Fear", a very strong song, though not on the album (The DVD is highly recommended as well, Sarah shows a lot of personality that they edit out of the album, because well, it's the whole performance not just the songs).

(Sarah did not perform any songs from before her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album as she was putting Solace and Touch behind her.)

Free Music Review: Excellent!
Hit: 5 Stars

For someone not totally familiar with Sarah McLachan's material, I would highly recommend this. In many ways I feel it is her crowning achievement. So much so, that unfortunately I can't help thinking, it can only go down hill from here.

This is without doubt, an excellent piece of work in every respect. She has such a rich treasure of songs to choose from. Her band is absolutely flawless and in possession of so much talent, it's enough to make any musician green with envy. The filming is excellent in every respect, if anything, it's too professional. The editing, lighting and camerawork make this a very enjoyable viewing experience. She is the ultimate performer and has the audience hanging on every note.

In my opinion this has got to be one of the finest live performances of all time. My only complaint is that it can't possibly get any better and after seeing this concert I don't think I want to see her live the next time around.

Free Music Review: Amazing CD/DVD combo
Hit: 5 Stars

This amazing CD/DVD set includes live tracks from Sarah's "Afterglow" tour in the Summer of 2004. The songs are from her Afterglow, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and Surfacing albums. The cd has 15 tracks: Fallen, World On Fire, Adia, Hold On, Perfect Girl, Drifting, Push, Witness, Answer, Angel, Train Wreck, Building A Mystery, Sweet Surrender, Stupid, and Dirty Little Secret.

The DVD has 23 tracks: Fallen, World On Fire, Adia, Hold On, Perfect Girl, Drifting, Push, I Will Remember You, Ice, Wait, Witness, Answer, Angel, Fear, Train Wreck, Building A Mystery, Sweet Surrender, Possession, Blackbird, Ice Cream, Stupid, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and Dirty Little Secret.

The DVD version rivals the studio version. Sarah's voice is stunning. I enjoyed the song Fallen so much. Everything from her voice, lyrics, and instrumentals is breathtaking. If you are a fan and like "live" albums this is a great one to own.

The only downside is the CD/DVD are copy protected.

Free Music Review: Awesome Concert DVD & CD combo
Hit: 5 Stars

Sarah is a favorite of mine and I was thrilled to get to tune her piano & attend her Afterglow concert here in St. Paul two years ago, so this DVD was a great way to relive that FABULOUSLY AWESOME SHOW. The DVD also has nice extras like a backstage video/glimpse into Sarah's life, concert photos, etc.

My only disappointment was the HORRENDOUS EDITING and frenetic camera work that detracted from her relatively smooth, seamless, and well-put together stage production. (Seems like it was done by a couple teenagers trying to make their first rock music video.)

The concert was BEAUTIFUL, designed to move you & thrill you & blow you away, just from right there in your seat. The DVD didn't need any *dazzling* effects & transitions -- a few well-placed cameras would have served nicely. Despite the video crap, it's a wonderful performance.

I like the CD, too. Slightly uptempo versions of great songs. (*^_^*)
