Im not sure how I found out about Sat-N-Smooth. I believe a friend slid me the cassette back in late 93. Before I could enjoy the cassette(till the tape pops) some amateur booster stole it out of my bookbag as well as my copy of Shyheim's The Lost Generation. Now that Im finally reunited with this album I can say that it was still a damn good album. Sat-N-Smooth consists of Brad-D and D-Bone. The duo flex their lyrical skills on the title track The Awakening as well as Red Tape, Groovin, On And On. They also tackle subjects like street life but they also infuse some positivity in it so its not all in vain. Tracks like Pain, Same Thang, What Am I To Do(where they both give different scenarios) and Mama Never Told Me are testaments of that. The only tracks I didnt feel was Creepin and Hittin Skinz is kind of corny. Other than these tracks the album was great. Bottom Line: Sat-N-Smooth's The Awakening is undeniably a highlight of 1993 and one of the best underground albums of 1993. I strongly recommend this album to any fan of underground hip hop. Standout Tracks: THE AWAKENING, PAIN, SAME THANG(original and remix), WHAT AM I TO DO, ON AND ON, RED TAPE, GROOVIN, MAMA NEVER TOLD ME and MELLO.
