Free Music Review: The Greatest Era
Hit: 5 Stars

This by far was the greatest era for music. Kudos to the BeeGees for their wonderful music.

Free Music Review: Boogie Down
Hit: 4 Stars

With the years of movie musicals arose in recent times around Hollywood and at the movies, the music seems to be just as important as it was years ago. Films like Dreamgirls and the upcoming Hairspray with John Travolta, remind people of just how important the music has to blend into a great film. That also can be said about the classics too in Travolta's dyas back in the 1970's. With Grease and Saturday Night Fever, he was everywhere, and just a darling with the music. However, the musical icons of last year, The Bee Gees have often been overlooked in recent years, in favor of wannabe acts that're more about gloss like Kelly Clarkson, and the irritating Paris Hilton who is just a singer who acts like a jerk. But, their music has received a big overhaul, and one of most popular records has too.

The 2007 re-release of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, was in regards to last years overhaul and move of The Bee Gees catalog from Universal and MCA, to Warner Brothers in the U.S. The albums sound great, and the music from the popular 70's film still are just as exciting to listen too, as they were developed 30 years ago. The songs on the soundtrack take you back to a time when everybody went to discos as an escape from everyday life, and the music was full of rhythm and life. The songs here including all of the Bee Gees classics like Night Fever, the soulful How Deep Is Your Love, and the cult favorite Stayin' Alive. Although the soundtrack is mainly about The Bee Gees, there are other great songs here as well including The Tramps Disco Inferno, and Yvonne Elliman's one hit wonder track If I Can't Have You. Although there aren't any new tracks that were added like the original was made, the songs here really sound better than ever, and still are great to whole new dancers everywhere.

All in all, the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever is a great buy for anyone who is into classic movie soundtracks. I absolutely love the songs here, and if you're a fan of John Travolta, or love The Bee Gees, than I definitely recommend this album a whole lot. It still makes you want to feel like you're Stayin' Alive no matter what!

Free Music Review: excellent sounds of an era that could never be forgotten
Hit: 4 Stars

The soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever is remastered on CD for us all to enjoy over and over again! The music is strong; and it easily brings back fond memories of going to clubs to forget your problems. The music is great; although I would have appreciated a bonus track or two and some new packaging.

The CD track set starts with The Bee Gees harmonizing so well on "Stayin' Alive." The drums, percussion and electric guitars carry the bulk of the melody and this makes "Stayin' Alive" a strong start for this album. "How Deep Is Your Love" slows down the pace; this pensive, thoughtful ballad, also by The Bee Gees, has them singing of a man who wants to know if the woman he loves also loves him truly in return. The subtle key changes make "How Deep Is Your Love" even more beautiful. Great! Moreover, "Night Fever," with its catchy melody, celebrates the nightlife of the day--love those drums and special effects!

"Calypso Breakdown," by Ralph MacDonald, is a treasure with its funky beat and percussion; it's a solid track that isn't remembered as much as the music by The Bee Gees. Other lesser remembered hits that are equally wonderful include "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman and the awesome "A Fifth Of Beethoven" by Walter Murphy.

"Jive Talkin'" gives us another incredible number by The Bee Gees; they harmonize to a funky `70s disco beat that makes you want to jump up and dance right where you are! "You Should Be Dancing" moves along at a faster tempo and The Bee Gees never miss a note!

The track set ends with the excellent "Disco Inferno" by The Trampps. This passionate disco number is infectiously catchy and it celebrates the days of disco. Great beat, too!

The artwork impresses me but I am disappointed that we don't get bonus tracks. The packaging should have been better considering that this is the 30th anniversary of the release of the movie. I will take off one star for this to give this CD a four star review.

Overall, this CD gives us great numbers from the movie Saturday Night Fever. I highly recommend it for fans of the movie and disco fans everywhere should pick up this CD today!

Free Music Review: Definitely Should Have Added BONUS Tracks But NOT "Disco Duck" !
Hit: 4 Stars

As other reviewers here have griped about the lack of any "Bonus" tracks on Rhino's 2007 Remastered "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack reissue, I'm with them. RHINO missed a great opportunity to add tracks that were cut off the original 1977 double-LP issue. I for one am still glad Rick Dees's "Disco Duck" did not make the cut of the original 1977 SNF and STILL is left off this newly-remastered soundtrack. Let's not MESS UP a classic soundtrack with junk! The folks at RHINO at least got that part right.

Sound is marginally better on this newly-remastered version only because the recent release of the VERY gorgeous-sounding BEE GEES 2 disc "Greatest Hits - The Record" and other reissues lessen the impact of the sonic improvement on this remastered release. But hearing hits from other artists such as Yvonne Elliman's sumptuous "If I Can't Have You", The Tramps "Disco Inferno", and Tavares "More Than A Woman" now sound like almost hearing it for the first time. It's as though a sonic veil has been lifted and you can actually HEAR every instrument in these tracks, unlike the original vinyl and digital versions of "SNF".

All in all, a nice effort, but RHINO is following the footsteps of other music labels in skimping from adding any BONUS tracks. This definitely is disturbing considering previous music trends when remastered reissues used to elicit excitement from suffering long-time die-hard fans who could always expect to find treasure troves of missing tracks from the original issues. Now the lack of any additional "surprises" on remastered reissues seems like a penny-pinching trend on the part of greedy music companies who expect music fans to shell out extra $$$ for the same number of song tracks. Let's hope this greedy trend reverses itself soon and record companies start adding missing or long-lost tracks to reissues. After all, who puts the $$$ in these music companies' FAT bank accounts?? I definitely resent the idea these music companies could assume we would shell out our hard-earned dollars simply for Remastered versions without any bonus tracks. Let's teach these greedy music companies a LESSON !!
