Free Music Review: A new old classic from Saxon at last

This is the album metal fans have been expecting from Saxon since Solid Ball Of Rock. Pure classic Saxon metal with added Unleash The Beast weight makes for a perfect album, that mixes fast and slow, heavy and soft, emotional and aggressive vocals, tons of riffs, guitar leads and solos. Thanks God gone is the German Power Metal a la Accept (I like Accept, but not on a NWOBHM icon please) of the previous 3 discs, that made all songs lookalike, one-tempo-only and boring.
Inner Sanctum sounds fresh and the variation among the songs make its audition so pleasant you will easily forget everything else and press the repeat button a few times. Lyrics are varied, covering from communism fall, past heroes, rock attitude, escapism, personal problems. Biff is singing like never, sometimes almost speaking, sometimes spitting his rage out. Paul and Doug hammering precise fist raising riffs and issuing those traditional Saxon melodic solos that are simple yet perfect. Nibbs and Nigel make the songs incredibly strong, the bass and drums are in your face.
About the songs, STATE OF GRACE starts almost like a hard rock, Biff sings it softly but the song growns into your emotions and the chorus is perfect. It would fit perfectly in Strong Arm Of The Law. In fact it is a great opener. NEED FOR SPEED is like the name, fast, short and very heavy, pure Unleash The Beast with Denin And Leather lyrics. Great song. LET ME FEEL YOUR POWER is also fast and absurdly heavy, with Biff raging out the chorus, dense and long solo, very good. RED STAR FALLING is a complex power ballad about communism fall, great protest lyrics and heavy riffs alternating with smooth singing. Awesome. I'VE GOT TO ROCK is where Saxon meets AC/DC!!!! Can't describe it better. Amazing. IF I WAS YOU is very emotional, starts with Sentenced-like guitars, the bridge has that bass-lead heaviness of Unleash The Beast and the chorus is almost spoken, kinda cheesy and works out very well. GOING NOWHERE FAST first riff shows the thing is good and it is. Classic slow guitarring spars with Biff trying to sing fast and aggressive, that grows so much on the simple yet effective chorus. Great. ASHES TO ASHES talks about unity and brothers, starts with a drum solo, keyboards enters to help and suddenly you have those hooky riffs and the song evolves to a chorus where everyone raises their fists and sing along, and here and then Biff shows his indignation. Perfect. EMPIRE RISING is the into for ATTILA THE HUN, which is a fast epic song about a historic figure, but that has some slow parts that can send shivers down your spine, it's like Maiden's Alexander The Great mixed with Iced Earth's Something Wicked. Why can't more albums end with a song like this one?
