Free Music Notes for Pitch Black ProgressFree Music Review: The future of Melodic Death Metal. This is how its done boys and girls! Hit: 5 Stars
Scar Symmetry is Melodic Death Metal with Progressive Metal influences. So naturally you end up with a great band who has a great sound and a defining element that is there throughout all of their work.
Pitch Black Progress makes you truly realize that Melodic Death Metal has really gone down hill. With only a few good releases coming out yearly out of a bunch of releases in the genre. Pitch Black Progress is NOT one of the bland, untalented, mediocre, predictable ones. This album has everything you could ask for in a Melodic Death Metal album. Great vocals with smooth transitions from Death, to melodic, good, harmonious guitar work, a great production and powerful tracks that dont put you to sleep. This album is a progression from their first release, "Symmetrical in Design". If you like bands like Unmoored (which shares the vocalist of Scar Symmetry), Beyond Fear, Illdisposed, Communic, and Insomnium then this is for you. This is Melodeath how it SHOULD be brought. Don't hesitate to put up the cash to buy this!
Free Music Review: fun, addicting, tight, and unoriginal Hit: 4 StarsReally fun melodeath that takes many pages from Soilwork's book. But, to make up for the unoriginality, they play with some nice intensity, the vocals are killer (LOTS of great vocal melodies) and the songwriting is solid. Basically, this is what Soilwork would have made after _A Predator's Portrait_ if they hand't changed their sound. If you're into metal/melodeath, you won't be disappointed at all.
Free Music Review: Top-Notch Melo-Death. Hit: 5 StarsScar Symmetry are one of the best and I DO MEAN best new melodic death metal bands to come out in a while, and they definately have a very bright future ahead of them. I recently got into them when I went out and bought their second and latest album "Pitch Black Progress" over the weekend, and I haven't stopped listening to it ever since. This album is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best metal albums of 2006 thus far, and one of the best new metal albums I've listened to in my life. I just love it, and I can't get enough of it. Everything about this album is absolutely incredible, from the mindblowing vocals, to the beyond beautiful guitarwork, to that awesome double bass drumming, what more do you need?. The choruses on each song has such an epic feel which makes this album special and very memorable. Christian Alvestam is an awesome vocalist who can go from bone chilling death growls that echo Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt to superb clean singing vocals that are just awesome. Guitarists Jonas Kjellgen and Per Nilsson shred and tear throughout with razor sharp riffs and awesome solos that are just beyond beautiful. Kenneth Seil's bass lines are hearable and very thunderous, and Henrik Ohlsson's double bass drumming is great as well. Every song on here rules BTW!!

LONG LIVE SCAR SYMMETRY!!
STAY METAL!!
Free Music Review: Progressive/Meodic/Thrash/Blackened/Power/Death Metal Hit: 5 StarsI am a new Scar Symmetry fan, Having never heard a single song by them until I recently purchased this album. I listen to alot of Power Metal and nearly as much Melodic Death Metal, So a friend suggested I get this and I did. Honestly this is easily one of the best Metal albums i've heard in years, Truely ingenious.
'Stand Out Tracks' on Pitch Black Progress are many and they will leave you awe stricken. A couple of my own favorites are 'The Kaleidoscope God' and its immensly impresive soloing. As well as 'Oscillation Point' that reminds me of a Power Metal band strongly influenced by Death Metal with bombastic drumming and clever guitar work through out. Also check out the track 'The illusionist' it is catchy enough to bring in new fans and yet heavy enough to not even come close to the Mainstream verse.
Vocals, Oh.. My.. God, This guys got my vote for best Metal vocals of 2006. His Death-Like growls are not only in good taste but actually audible, You can understand what hes saying most of the time. But his clean vocals are off the charts, This is where I hear the Power Metal influence. This guy hits amazing notes and can switch back from Death-Growl to Clean Vox with no flaw. Many of the chourus' have an Epic feel to them mainly due to his Vocals. This man is truely a Trend Setter for fellow Metal Vocalists.
Scar Symmetry truely out done themselves and are gaining new fans every minute. As others have said "This is how a Melodic Death band should sound".. I disagree, This is how Metal should sound in general. Not many bands can cross genres and even less do it well, These guys pulled it off FLAWLESSLY. This is truely the first band in a long while in which I beleve deserve their own Genre named for their music.
If your into Melodic Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Power Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Progressive Metal and most other types of Metal you seriously need to give this album a lessen, I dare say this already IS 2006 Album of the Year and I highly doubt many bands can or will surpass this!
Free Music Review: Opinion Changed After Listening to the Whole Album... Hit: 5 StarsWell I'm pretty new to Scar Symmetry, and the first song i heard was The Illusionist on a sample cd and while i didn't think it was bad i heard the really high vocals and i was like awww its gonna sound 80's but i was still diggin the song so i checked out the cd. well i was certainely surprised... I LOVE IT! i must say its very rare that i even like a higher vocal style cuz i really don't like it when someone sings like that but he does such a good job doing it. My favorite song at the moment would have to be Slaves To the Subliminal, as for what other people saying this is what Soilwork should sound like... um no... Soilwork is doing a good job with what they are doing and have a way different sound that is also good, same thing with In Flames. Some people may be turned off by the higher vocals but i really don't think there cheesy like 80's stuff, they are borderline of being cheesy but i think they are just right, can't wait to see what the future has in store for these guys. \m/
