Free Music Review: STRONG EFFORT FROM SCARFACE WITH STUMBLINGS
Hit: 3 Stars

First, I must say that I give this album 3 1/2 STARS (I'm not even going into Amazon not employing half stars on their rating system). You know what? I really was disappointed by this release; I was expecting a more solid, consistent release from Mr. Brad Jordan.

I've tried listening to the whole thing with a conscious ear but my attention just wanders. Whereas the bangers stand out like a sore thumb, there's just too much filler here for my liking, not to mention a lot of lackluster and mediocre production, in my opinion. Although it's not terrible, I think that we expect more from Kanye West ("In Cold Blood"); actually, in my opinion, the title of the song doesn't even go with the beat. Tracks 6-10 is just five tracks of crappy beat clutter that seems fused together in a string of mediocrity. The only thing that keeps those songs from sucking is Facemob's always on-point lyrics. And the literally terrible female vocals at the beginning of "In Between Us" (feat. Nas) drives me insane.

Generally, things pick up about track 10 or 11 but overall, this album production-wise could've been A HECK OF A LOT BETTER. Get it straight though: This album is DOPE because SCARFACE IS ONE OF THE MOST GIFTED LYRICISTS on the face of the planet, heck, he even knocks a lot of wordy spitters from the East Coast out the box. I'm saying, Mr. Jordan is blessed with an unnatural gift to bring that "too real" brand of lyricism to your mind, making you rethink things. Scarface doesn't rap "diamonds, rings, big-breasted floosies, praising drugs, killin n****s, clubbin" and that other nonsense - Scarface raps life. That's why he's top dog callin shots down here (the south).

It's just unfortunate that his first Def Jam South release wasn't better. Even if you can't get with how deep Scarface gets at times, you definitely have to pick this one up, if just for the joints "Guess Who's Back" (feat. Jay-Z and Beanie Mac), "On My Block," "Heaven," and "I Ain't the One" (feat. WC)...that's why I copped it. PEACE!

Free Music Review: Pure Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

In actuality, there are very few unarguable hip-hop classic albums in existence. In my opinion, The Fix is one of those select compilations of song. Although top-notch production is certainly a must, what makes this album such an exception is the uncommon lyrical prowess of Mr. Scarface himself. His ability to tell graphic well-planned narratives has distinguished him throughout his career. While most rappers only seek to tell you how bad they are, Scarface prefers to tell you the intricate story of why. The authenticity of his stories is evident as one can only express such vivid narratives as a result of direct experience. As tough as he can be, he is equally willing to bare his soul and express his spiritual side. And, during a period when misogynist rap lyrics are the norm, Scarface opts to express a well deserved appreciation towards women. There are few rappers alive who can match Scarface lyrically when he remains as focused as he is throughout The Fix. In addition to his intelligent compositions, he is blessed with one of the best vocal tones in the business, which provides him with a God given advantage during an era of dime-a-dozen MC's. I can't imagine that any true fan of hip-hop will argue against the classification of this album as a true classic.

Free Music Review: A Definitive Gangsta Rap Album - 5 Stars
Hit: 5 Stars

With The Fix, Scarface not only resurrected gangsta rap as a legitimate form of hip-hop (its death arguably coming after Dr. Dre failed to follow up "The Chronic 2001"), he crafted a masterful, insightful album that explores the mind of a man caught between two worlds: Face was formerly a renowned Houston hustler, however, these days hes walkin in the path of God. Sprinkled throughout the LP are tales of life lessons, payin dues, betrayal, finding true love, and embracing the power of religion. Production is handled by Kanye West, one of the beatsmiths responsible for Jay-Z's classic, The Blueprint, as well as The Neptunes, Nashiem Myrick, and Face himself. With this LP, Face solidified his title as one of the greatest gangsta emcees of all time, along with Jay-Z, Nas, and the Notorious B.I.G. A Hip-Hop Classic.

Free Music Review: MAD PROPS FOR SCARFACE
Hit: 5 Stars

Its no question why Scarface is so highly respected. This kat is deep. Tupac would listen to this CD over and over again and if he was listening to it in his car he'd keep driving on to where Face is to hug a brotha fo sho. This is some real shiznit. I'm into lyrics bigtime. Scarface put it down deep and kept it dark and lovely at the same time. Not too many kats can come straight from the hood, put it down for the hood, and even take the hood to church all in one CD while everybody bobs their head through the whole CD. Its like that!!! I'm a big Scarface fan now. I have to throw him into the pool of legendary rappers now. Its a done deal.
