Free Music Review: The O.G. returns Hit: 5 StarsMany true rap fans and Scarface fans will remember back in '94 when Scarface released his classic album, The Diary. It was gritty, outlined the life of a gangsta and it was appallingly beautiful. To be honest, I didn't think Scarface could do it again, release an album that is equally great to his classic debut. The Fix is far much softer and mellow than The Diary but I'm not saying that in a bad way. Scarface found a way to make a soft album sound real good. This is not your average Scarface and you'd never think he'd make an album with an attitude like this. Scarface is reborn, and what a way to come out and introduce to us the new, improved Scarface.
You won't find any of his excellent battle raps (Born Killer, The Diary etc.) songs, which was something I was really looking forward to as he is excellent at it but you will find a bunch of classics. Not only did he make this album somewhat incredible but he keeps it true to the ghetto, which I respect him a lot for. Check out the well known On My Block, an excellent loop that takes us on a trip to his younger days on his block. The piano piece is excellent and his lyrics are touching. The banging Guess Who's Back with Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel is another cut you should look for. Yeah, it sounds like a misplaced Blueprint song but it still fits. I liked Sellout because Scarface shows these fools in the business now that he's a realist and tells them what rap is really about. I also liked the way this track sounds, it produced in a way that would make you think Nelly produced it but Scarface is clever with this track. Even though it sounds like a sucker mc production, the song is actually great. I Ain't the One with WC is RAW! I love this track, Scarface and WC are a perfect team as they both have rough voices. Notice that the track is produced by Tony Pizarro, the mind behind the production of 2Pac's classic cut, Dear Mama. However, the track I enjoyed most is In Between Us. Like the other guy said, this track actually does blow away Favor for a Favor (even though that has a ruthless beat). It is excellent in all ways, the production is TOP NOTCH (Scarface is an incredible producer) and the lyrics are one of a kind. It's arguably one of Scarface's best songs (I Seen a Man Die and Hand of the Dead Body are my two favorite cuts from Scarface).
The Fix, what can I say? Scarface did it once, he proved to the world he could do it again. Hell, I bet he can do it once more. There's something about Scarface that really gets me hooked on. He has kept it true to the game ever since his Geto Boys days and what do you know? He's still here and still keeping it raw. I recommend this album to any rap fan but if you've just got into Scarface, get The Diary first to witness his REAL STRENGTH. The Fix, fixing up rap music, for sure. I'm out
Best moments= Safe, On My Block, What Can I Do?, In Between Us and I Ain't the One
Free Music Review: The Fix is a classic. Hit: 5 StarsThis is a classic album by scarface, good songs, beautiful writing and incredible rapping, this is a rapper that will never sellout to the pop rap crowd (dr. dre) and will stay true to their true gangsta rap fans, I Hope scarface can make more good albums soon.
Free Music Review: Scarface FIXED up a CLASSIC Hit: 5 Stars2002 was starting to become a "dead zone" as far as hip hop is concerned. But the almighty Scarface, coming off of the "near classic" The Last of a Dying Breed album, returned to bless us with The Fix, an album that I like to describe as being "conceptually beautiful." Not only is this album one of his best, it was possibly the best album of 2002, although CHALLENGED by Nas' God Son album. Just like his other 5 star classic The Diary, this album is another album where Face is truly in his prime, still 10 years in the game and he hasn't peaked yet. Here's the review:Album Highlights: Once again, Scarface delivers an album with absolutely NO filler. Even though I don't like WC, the song featuring him is TIGHT. Production: Thumbs up. He hooked up with Kanye West and The Neptunes for this one. You'd think that with their different styles that they wouldn't suit the nature of Scarface. But they do, and they do with STYLE. Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs way way up. Listen to the songs with Faith Evans and Kelly Price, and you'll see what I mean. Originality: Thumbs way up. NO ONE was coming like this in 2002. The Last Word: One CLASSIC album from Scarface. He came back and did it again with this release, and he managed to release this at a time when hip hop was starting to get weak. If other artists can release albums as excellent as this, hip hop would be better. But as for now, this album stands as a true testament to Scarface's prowess as an artist. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Free Music Review: Very Underrated Album Hit: 5 StarsThis album is very underrated! Id say about 99% of the people who heard this album would agree that it is a very good CD, but I dont think that many people picked it up. The only thing that I dont like is that it only has 13 tracks; 2 being an intro and an outro. Here is a list of the tracks on the album and my ratings.1- The Fix- intro 2- Safe- 5/5 good beat with good lyrics 3- In Cold Blood- 4/5 good production from Kanye West with good lyrics 4- Guess Who's Back feat. Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel- 5/5 produced by Kanye West---great beat and solid verses from all rappers 5- On My Block- 5/5- great single, for some reason I just love this beat... its simple but I like it. Great Lyrics from Face 6- Keep Me Down 4/5 7- What Can I Do? feat Kelly Price-4/5 8- In Between Us feat Nas-- 4/5 Nas and Face both do great on this track but the singing gets annoying between verses 9- Someday feat Faith Evans 4/5 produced by the Neptunes 10- Sellout 5/5 11- Heaven feat Kelly Price 5/5 produced by Kanye West great lyrics 12- I Aint the One feat WC-- 4/5 WC does a great job 13- Fixed- outro
