Free Music Review: You've Been Fixed
Hit: 5 Stars

Scarface hits us hard with this classic album at a time when many people are starving for some real rap. For anyone who's tired of hearing rappers telling us about how much Gucci they have this album is the answer. You won't hear Scarface rapping about his jewelry or how big his rims are, all you get is real hardcore rap. This album is amazing, every song is a work of art even the intro is tight. there's no filler, no skits, no bulls***. The production is incredible, all the beats are amazing and go perfectly with Scarface's hardcore delivery. There are a couple songs where Scarface shows his spiritual side and it works incredibly well. All of the guest rappers do a great job complementing Scarface's unique style (Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, W.C., & Nas). The bottom line is that any real hip-hop fan should have this CD, because it's a classic.

While most rap veterans scramble to remain relevant in a genre that seems to get younger every year, former leader of the innovative Southern rap group The Geto Boys comes harder than ever with "The Fix." Although Face possesses the vigor and passion of the past, he appears to have lyrically evolved into a deeper, more contemplative artist. Against a great beat, on the excellent track "Safe," he raps about the do's and don't's of the drug game like a seasoned vet having seen it all. 'Face has spiritually matured a great deal as well. In the past, his music was compelling yet utterly despondent. Now, he seems to have a great deal of hope for the future and a sense of purpose that will lead him away from the self-destructive days of the past. This change of heart is displayed on the touching track "Heaven," guesting Kelly Price. The presence of R&B on the album actually enhances it (I thought I would never say that about any rap album). Scarface has by no means softened, and can still tear it up next to any of the younger rappers in the industry, which he proves on the excellent "In between Us," featuring Nas. Scarface's duet with much respected L.A. rapper W.C. "I Ain't the One" is enough evidence that the veteran is still just as lethal on the mic if not more than he was in the past. Although he has had a prolific run in the industry, our hero never forgets about the streets that birthed his career and he gives an honest, socially conscious, and poignant depiction of his 'hood on the astounding track "On MY Block." Unlike some of his previous releases, that were often bogged down by cheap production, "The Fix" is also very well produced and arranged. Scarface is all about longevity, and this release should prove to any naysayers that the Godfather of Southern rap is just hitting his prime now and is here to stay. Pick this album up.

Free Music Review: One of the best albums I own. Wanna know why..?
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a huge Hip Hop fan, the Hip Hop that keeps it real and not strictly 'ganstas and hoes'. When I bought this album, I didn't know anything about Scarface, I just heard through the grapevine that it was good. Good, in my opinion, is a major understatement. This record is loaded with songs that really get you thinking about the deeper meanings of life like religion, friends, street smarts and relationships. Even if you're a 'gangstas and hoes' hip hop fan, this album has something for you, though it's dealt with from a different perspective.

Scarface has a very distinctive voice laced with his old school gangster charisma, but instead of spending all of his rhyming about gun busting and crack dealing it 'ain't no thang' he approaches the subject with a very raw feel of respect that these subjects are the reality for a lot of people, not just something you can joke about. He keeps violence glamorizing to a minimum but by no means tones down his realness in regards to the subject. He lets everyone know out there what it's like to have to sell crack to make ends meets.

On another note, Scarface opens up on a couple of songs with a much more sad and remorseful feeling for those who have lost loved ones or grown up on the street. To some his lyrics may seem corny, but to others, you can really hear the sincerity in his voice, letting you know he's not kidding.
I wouldn't classify this album as a dance joint, at all, but more for laid back listening, though there is one good club joint on this album with Jay Z and Freeway called Guess Who's Back. For those of you who really wanna know whether you should buy this album, let me lay it out for you real quick...

1.) The Fix 3/4 just an acoustic intro
2.) Safe 3 and a half/4 a pretty good song laced with street grit and rawness.
3.) In Cold Blood 3/4 Scarface borrows some old school sound for this one, and on first listen, this song can become addictive, but it quickly grows old.
4.) Guess Who's Back 5/4 is it possible for a song to be so addictive? Not much subject matter, but that can be ignored for a truly bangin beat.
5.) On My Block 4/4 For some this song may take some getting used to, but after a couple of rounds on the cd player and getting through to the lyrics, this a very solid song and tremendous single.
6.) Keep Me Down 4/4 This is an awesome song, full of aggression and anger. Very gritty but worth it.
7.) What Can I Do? 4/4 A great R&B laced song that doesn't take away from the rap. Inspiring lyrics for some, corny for others, but in my opinion, a very heart felt song.
8.) In Between Us 3/4 The lyrics on Nas and Scarface's part are incredible, awesome deliverance, but after you get past Nas verse (which is quite short) you have to wait through what feels is an eternity of repetitive Faith Evans lyrics to get to Scarface. (Not to say I don't like Faith.)
9.) Someday 4/4 Not much to say. Good song, religious, inspiring.

10.) Sellout 3/4 Another good song by Scarface, but one of the less played joints on the album.
11.) Heaven 3 and a half/4 Another good religious song that would have gotten a full four if it wasn't for the hook (kind of boring) and the fact that three quarters of the way through the song, the melody changes and completely ruins the mood.
12.) I Ain't The One 4/4 This song is amazing if simply because of the W.C. and Scarface combination. Their voices may be a lot alike, but they really do each other justice on this track.
13.) 3/4 Fixed Just an outro, good music, not exciting.

Overall, I don't like to talk about rappers, you know how much they hate it, but I couldn't help but put in my piece about this album. Truly amazing. Keep hitting with your best Scarface!!!

Free Music Review: "The Fix" - A Hands Down Classic In Every Way
Hit: 5 Stars

I will admit that I wasn't much of a Scarface fan and the only album I really heard from Scarface was "The Untouchable" which featured "Smile" featuring 2Pac. After watching the video, "On My Block" on TV and than listening to it on the radio, I decided to give this album a try. After gettin the album, I couldn't stop listening to it. I can listen to just about every song with no problem.

The album starts off with a brief intro and then goes into the song "Safe". Scarface spits on how you gotta keep your personal information safe from anyone else so others don't start plotting against you. I'm feeling the beat as well. "In Cold Blood" has a nice, old-time feel to it in which Scarface tells a story of his street life and some obstacles. The radio hit, "Guess Who's Back" featuring Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel works well. The beat Kanye West laid down is a favorite and all three lyricist ripped it. "On My Block" is my favorite song on the album because Scarface retells about his memories on the block over the sampled piano loop. "Keep Me Down" is a guitar-powered beat in which Scarface addresses the hater trying to keep him down from what he does best. The track is followed by the somber "What Can I Do" featuring Kelly Price and this is where Scarface gets real. The beat really helps to bring out a bigger message than what Face is spittin but the lyrics were heartfelt. "In Between Us" feat Nas is an amazing personal track. Both Nas and Scarface told their own personal stories of how friendships were disturbed by a certain something. I like the chorus even though it was kinda long. The Neptune-laced "Someday" is next and it works perfectly. The mix of Face Mob and Faith Evans worked to perfection with Scarface spitting memorable rhymes and Faith's powerful chorus. "Sellout" is about rap/hip hop artists who have the sell out to move more albums and become more famous rather than keeping their same style which made them good. The heartfelt "Heaven" is next in where there's two parts. The first part is where Scarface talks about finding heaven in a girl. Then after the 2nd verse, the beat is different and Scarface talks about the effects on 9/11. The final song "I Ain't The One" featuring W.C. is raw and tight. I loved W.C. spitting to the beat but Scarface kept his ground as well. Then tha ablum closes out with an outro.

Final Review: Even though I haven't heard much of Scarface material other than the Fix and Untouchable, I really expect good things from the Def Jam South owner. Make sure you get this classic album because you won't be disappointed.

Free Music Review: Decent, but not off the chain
Hit: 4 Stars

THE GOOD:
There are about four songs that are utterly amazing. Ill talk about two of em.

"On My Block"--this ones a classic, anybody with even minimal knowledge of hip-hop can attest to that.

"Guess Whos Back"--The beat is on point, Jay-Z and Beanie lay it down. Fantastic music for rollin.

The others have value more for the lyricism than their beat, but the beats are still good. There are some really poignant lyrics coming out of them which reveal a multidemensional side to this reformed thug (good change of pace from the bling style of most mainstream rap). Common themes are him coping with his past, abandoment from his friends, resolution about his previous lifestyle, all while maintaing a no-regrets kind of confidence about all of that stuff. Quality, no doubt.

THE BAD:

There are a couple of religeously oriented songs that are just cornball. Im sorry, but that is the truth. They completely throw the general mood of the album off. I think faith evans is in one of em, and I cant remember the other one.

SHOULD YOU GET IT:

If you are just getting into hip-hop, no. If you rarely buy cd's and you want one thats through-and-through amazing, no. If you already listen to hip-hop and want a slight change of pace thats provocative-yet-gangsta in style then yes. If you appreciated "On My Block" and want songs of a similar vein, yes.
