Free Music Notes for The FixFree Music Review: One of the Best Albums of All Time Hit: 5 Stars2002 was a year of very wack cds, but Scarface's The Fix is not one of them. As a matter of fact, this album was better than Jay-Z's Blueprint, and Nas's Stillmatic. There was not a track on this album that I would skip. My favorite songs are "In Cold Blood", "Guess Who's Back", "What Can I Do?", "Someday", and of course my personal favorite "Heaven". Get this album even if you're not a real big Scarface fan. In my case, the only other Scarface album that I bought was The Diary. It sounds like Scarface reinvented himself on this album and got real personal.
Free Music Review: The best of 2002. No doubt at all. Hit: 5 StarsA lot of people have been writing bad reviews of this album because it is a big change from Face's Rap-A-Lot days. Well, I have been listening to Face since 1996, and I think this is his most complete album yet. The Diary, a hip-hop classic, is on the same level with this record. You can honestly listen to EVERY song on here. Tell me that isn't rare in the world of hip-hop today. Who cares if Face Mob isn't on here. This album is about Scarface, not his crew. He is more than capable of putting out classics, and this one is easily the best record of 2002.
Free Music Review: This Fix'll do for now Hit: 5 StarsThe Fix was the first album from Scarface that I ever got, and I'm sure happy I picked this one up. I got interested because of the awesome single "On My Block," but the nice surprise was that this album is solid as hell. It's a 50 minute album with absolutely no filler. It starts and ends with a cool instrumental interlude and in between are 11 bangin' tracks. If you are new to Scarface, here's the lowdown. Scarface has a very appealing and accessible style, without it being pop. His career has spanned over ten years and he was a member of the Geto Boys. He is honest and real without coming off corny. He also has a smooth, baritone voice with great diction and a solid flow. He doesn't have a crazy flow and doesn't vary his style too much, but he always brings it right. Scarface also has enough varied subject matters to keep this album interesting as well. The beats are all very appealing and contribute to an album where no tracks, even the Neptunes one sounds out of place. The beats are also very interesting and not generic in any way. The collaborations are also great with Nas, Jay-Z, and WC dropping great rhymes and Kelly Price and Faith Evans holding it down witht the vocals. It is nice to see an album that doesn't run 78 minutes just because it can. So if you want real, straight up hip-hop straight out of H-Town with no filler, then cop this album. You won't regret it. Highlights (best of the best): "On My Block", the laid-back single about reminiscing with a killer beat. "What Can I Do?," where Scarface raps with passion and conviction with Kelly Price providing a soulful hook. "In Between Us," with a classic verse by Nas, but a mildly annoying hook.
Free Music Review: One of the realest records I've ever heard Hit: 4 StarsThis album is excellent. From his collaboration with Nas on In Between Us, to his tales of life on the streets in Keep Me Down or Safe, this album tells many amazing stories. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes rap. And to the guy who said that it's a bad album because he swears, and that he is not truly Christian for it: He is more truly Christian than you, who excludes someone from the religion just for something he says. You are not even really listening to Face's message. To take it right from him in Keep Me Down: you don't really want a N. to climb. you'd rather separate me from my family forever. Instead of tryin to keep us together, you M.F. would rather keep me down.
Free Music Review: Fixed Hit: 4 StarsI'm more into rock, and not one who knows all that much about rap, and I know even less about Scarface, but this is extremely good. I like it because you can tell this isn't trying to be anything other than what it is. Just really good rap. The thing I notice about it most, is that it sounds fresh, and old school at the same time. I guess you could call it a "new classic". My favorite thing is the lyrics booklet covered in pot leaves that comes in it's own little ziploc bag. That's gangsta!
