Free Music Notes for The FixFree Music Review: You wanna go to war? Hit: 5 StarsSCARFACE - THE FIXMr. Scarface is back! I was particularly interested in this Scarface CD because it was his first on the Def Jam label. Def Jam and it's associated labels have some heavy hitters(Jay Z, DMX) so I thought it would be interesting to see if that influence would change his music. Man what was I thinkin! This is the same ole Scarface from 1991's tape "Mr. Scarface is back". A little older and a bit more reflective but really the same ole dude. Scarface is never thought of as the best lyricist ever. But man this dudes stories are something fierce. Unrivaled..Definitely not for the light hearted. I remember hearing him on the "Geto Boys" works and man it was like the first time watching "New Jack City". I mean you knew about the street game but you really didn't KNOW about the game till you saw that movie. Same with Scarface. This CD has straight cooled out, clean tracks and just "Face" rappin abt "the hustle". The track with Jay Z and Beenie,"Guess Who's Back", is probably the closest thing to main stream you get on this CD. "On My Block" is a tight song about life in Texas in the 80's. I definitely was feelin that. On "What Can I Do" he take's his flow back to "I Never Seen A Man Die". It features Kelly Price...Nice. Track 8 ,"In Between Us", as a nice collabo with NAS and track 9 "Someday" is a smooth cut with Faith. Here is where you can see the Def Jam influence, but in a good way. See back on RapALot Scarface would use Lacretia from around the way to sing his hooks. Now he has reputable vocals to match his flow. Track 10 "Sellout" as directed straight at the industry rappers who have changed their styles. My favorite track on the CD is "Heaven" , another collabo with Kelly Price. To sum up this song I quote "This might be some shiznit you don't understand so you have to rewind this shiznit back". And it's true. This is a deep song and about 3/4ths of the way in they flip the track all together. The CD ends with a remake of N W A's "I Ain't The One" with WC. It's cool...After listening to this CD you can understand why they call Scarface "the rapper's rapper".
Free Music Review: Start to finish, one of the best of 2002 Hit: 5 StarsYou always see people write that every song on a CD is good, when really what they mean is that most of the songs are good and they skip the skits. If you listen to this CD once, you will actually be able to say this truthfully. Every song is awesome, and there are NO skits. The best songs are, well...all of them! Check out "Sellout" if you think Nelly and Ja Rule fit that moniker.
Free Music Review: A Classic No Doubt! Hit: 5 StarsThis joint is tight from top to bottom. I won't front, this is the first scarface cd that I've ever bought. Because "Face" is known to talk about death alot, I've always balked at his cd's. After peeping this though, I'll no doubt own his whole collection very soon. Scarface raps and especially writes on a higher level than most rappers ever could. This is what sets him apart from your average mc. How he's not better known totally escapes me. Definitely the hottest & best mc the south has ever or will ever produce. I knew he was something special when I first heard "I Seen A Man Cry" years ago.
