Free Music Review: Sweet Heart Dealer is a true masterpiece.
Hit: 5 Stars

The Last Day I was Happy- Upon listening to this song I slipped beneath a crimson wave of noise and sinister beauty from which there was no escape. Enraptured by the angelic vocals of Jessicka and the gutsy bass line that Kyle so masterfully plays, the nursery rhyme like style chant of this song makes it sound like a childhood dream gone wrong which slowly transcends itself into adolescence. This is perhaps one of my favourites on the whole CD because it is really heavy and introduces the rest of the album with such grandeur. `I just want to lie here...just let him die here next to me...the last day I was happy' it's like looking into the mirror and staring back at a broken reflection.

Band Aid Covers The Bullet Hole- This oozes bittersweet gorgeousness. It is a song which aims straight to the heart and fires at its victim with such ironic viciousness that it almost bleeds. A subtle blend of innocence &hate, the guitars swirl around your head as if all consciousness is being drained away and this, like the last beating of your heart is the rhythm to remember. This song was released as a single as it is definitely that kind of radio-friendly tune which is catchy enough to do just that. My personal favourite line; `Spiders in my hair &guns on my mind, thinking of the people who have been so unkind...if words could kill them I might make myself blind' along with the other lines which follow up to the main chorus.

Crispin Glover- From the very first skip and throw pick of the guitars to the longing in Jessicka's voice of `they don't love you anymore' this song is a tribute to the man himself. `Bad seeds grow weeds...Crispin Glover, I wish you were on my T.V' is just classic, the guitars smash their way in at each verse and mellow out a bit just before the chorus, where it then explodes into beats and fusions of stars as though this is the last time to explain everything. I especially love the end plea `Crispin Glover, save us all...'.

Alexander the Burn Victim- This song has been described by many as their absolute favourite on the album and it is easy to see why upon listening to it. This is a beautiful song with Jessicka's voice seemingly feeling so haunting, often floating in between the ghostly guitars and tragic beats which add up to this feeling of helplessness. It feels so soft and broken throughout, giving to this effect of everything being lost. I began to feel myself cry upon listening to the whispered murmurings which lead up to the cry of `It's all for love...' I can't describe how lovely and heartbreaking this song is to listen to `...and when he sleeps I hope he's okay' just makes you want to sit and cry, it truly is angelic. Jessicka has a cat called Alexander, I'm not sure whether there are any connections but it would be sweet if there were.

Baby Dracula- Seductive and sexy, this song draws you in with its innocence and then wraps itself in its bittersweet melody and holds you down while sucking at your life force. `Stop your nonsense my dear. I know you need attention...so slash an artery' the heavy bass parts around the chorus emphasise the dark qualities in Jess' voice, this song will lull you in and sink its teeth into your conscious and eat away until you feel nothing but love and adoration for this most amazing of bands. I really like this track, it definitely has single potential.

Black Horse Riding Star - A deadly concoction of buzzing guitars &screaming vocals in a passionate flurry for love and disaster. This song really, really ROCKS, full stop. This is the stand-out track other than Alexander the Burn Victim and the Last Day I was Happy for me. Just when you think it is about to finish it comes back with a kick and blows your mind like never before. It is a very addictive song &every time I listen to it it fills me with rage and anger, like I just want to break things and go crazy. The chorus part of 'so high and you can't feel it' is just absolutely mind blowing. That's what I love about a song that can do that. That is when you know you love a band, if they can take you through the motions &back again, these days not enough bands do that for me...Scarling. is the exception in that they are stunning sound and image wise.

Can't (Halloween Valentine) - This is a very haunting almost ballad-esque style song which I find particularly haunting and very beautiful. It is a fitting end to the CD yet seems to lead off on another trail from the rest of the album in a sense. I really like the last few lines with the repetition of 'Why can't you understand?' while at the beginning there is an almost inaudible repetition in the background of 'make a decision' which I noticed. Jessicka's voice sounds different on this song to all the rest, I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but her voice is very monotone in many ways throughout which is to reflect the particular emotion of the song I guess, it's as though everything and everyone has become desensitized to the pain and the hurt we feel. Once the CD is over I feel this incredible sense of emptiness and while a black void which had been previously vacant is now filled, the stirring silence only makes me want to play Sweet Heart Dealer again and again and again. C'est magnifique.
