Free Music Review: Schleigho does it again

Let me start by saying that this is Schleigho's fourth CD (why aren't the rest available on Amazon.com?). Once again they do stuff completely different than on their previous albums. Their second album "Farewell to the Sun" has five out of the seven tracks with vocals, and the album has no fusion/jazz feel to it at all, it is just a very dark, brooding CD. The third CD "In the Interest of Time" goes the complete opposite path. Much of the music sounds a lot like Herbie Hancock/Billy Cobham fusion. There are two tracks with vocals (which are minimal). On "Continent" their sound is really unique. There are no vocals at all. A staple of Schleigho's sound is the avoidance of 4/4 time. This album is no exception to that. On this CD the bass and drums have awesome motives that are just repeated throughout each piece (of course with decoration and variation). Listening to "Sumo" I just think to myself, "boy I have never heard any music as ballsy as this." This album is not for everyone. Those who cringe at the sound of dissonance, stay away. Those who like a more funk/jazz approach, check out their CD "In the Interest of Time", then get "Continent"
