Free Music Notes for School Daze (1988 Film) [SOUNDTRACK]Free Music Review: The Soundtrack to My College Years Hit: 5 Stars
I finally bought the this CD Christmas 2005. I cant stop playing it at work, in the car or at home. Like other reviewrs, I originally had the Album, then a "dub tape" that eventally whore out in 2004.
This CD was truly the soundtrack to my college years. whenever I listen to it ( or look at the movie)I immediately download the appropriate scene from the movie or a similar "real-life" experience. I didnt attend an HBCU, however being in college in the late eighties I fully experienced the "African American College Student Experience"
School Daze is a Rich and Vibrant soundtrack. Not a pieced together complilation- like most soundtracks are. When I listen, I feel like I am in a concert hall. The transfer to CD is impeccable!
I love every song, but especially "Be Alone Tonight," "Da Butt'- still have the Tee shirt from a EU concert, "Be One" and "Perfect Match"- (remember those college romances....)
Free Music Review: This is an awesome soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
I just finished watching School Daze on DVD this weekend, and I've been humming one of my favorite songs since. "We've only said goodbye." I enjoy all the songs on the soundtrack, but this song is my absolute favorite. I have this soundtrack on Vinyl, but not having a turn table I'm not able to listen to it. Well knowing I can finally buy this soundtrack on CD will change all of that. This was when soundtracks were well put together, and the songs were from the movie. I used to play my vinyl copy all the time.
My favorite songs on the soundtrack are the following:
2. Perfect Match - this is such a sexy song
3. Be alone tonight - Tish sings the heck out of this song!!!
4. Straight and Nappy
9. Be One - by the late Phyllis Hyman
11. We've Already Said Goodbye(Before we said hello)
This is a must have for your CD collection.
Free Music Review: The Best Soundtrack of the Eighties Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is one of the best art forms assembled for a soundtrack. I have been looking for this CD for years after it was stolen and it is a dream come true to finally find it. "School Daze" holds a special place with me because it was out just as I was entering Grambling St. in 1988. From the fellas chillin' in the dorms, the football games, the beautiful sisters and seeing my brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, the music and the movie typified Black College Life in a way that only Spike Lee could interpret. My favorite songs from this masterpiece are Perfect Match, I'm Building Me a Home and Be One by the late great Phyllis Hyman. If you are a true music lover and if you would like to think fondly of your collegiate years, you must get this soundtrack. In addition, pick up Mo' Betta Blues. It's just as tight. You will not be disappointed in these collectors items.
Free Music Review: This is for you too! Hit: 5 Stars
Now- IM sure if youve come this far to read the critics choice youve heard a lot of wonderful stories- Im sorry- I dont have one, but I do have an explination of why I like the album, and its mostley becuase the music on here is tite!- its mad cool, and its tha illest = its good. The music has a combination of pop, some blues, a touch ofsoul and its all mixed in with jazz! My suggestion is get it and you'll see just how good it is! I remember when my sister and my girl cousins use to act out the straight and nappy track. I loved siting way close up to the speaker and hearing every little detail of the music. I use to lip sing the "Im building me a home" track for my grandmother. Then we all use to get around and do tha gama fi gama g fi g thing- man it was cool. Get it and you will be the next one posting your good comment on here! Peace
Free Music Review: FINALLY FOUND IT Hit: 5 Stars
I'd just like to say that I've been looking for this album since 1990. I got the CD when it first came out but somewhere throughout my many moves it was lost. I've been to every used CD store in DC, MD, and FL. A couple of years ago it was out of print and I thought that I'd never find it again. Thankfully I did. Being an alum of a HBCU (FAMU) and now a student at another (Howard) this album is definitely a musical representation of the Black college experience and for it I am truly thankful (the experience and the album) I mean, 'I Can Only Be Me' is classic. 'One Little Acorn' is genius. No offense to Terence Blachard, but Spike needs to let his Dad score his movies again. This album has it all. Phyllis Hyman...enough said!
