Free Music Review: Scissor Sisters is one of the BEST
Hit: 5 Stars

This album has grown on me over the months since Katrina wiped out my home. I have to admit that my first exposure was the dvd they made of some of their performances and music videos. After that, I listened to the album over and over again.

The camp level for most of the tracks is off the chart, but don't let that fool you. The tracks that aren't campy are shadowy ballads that grab a hold and don't let go.

Musically, this band is very very talented and from what I've seen of their stage performance, they have quite a successful future ahead of them.

The cover of Comfortably Numb is long overdue if you ask. There are no sacred cows anymore, might as well do what you want and enjoy it. Besides, any other Pink Floyd covers I can think of didn't turn out this well. SS actually brought an original angle to the cover and made it their own, in much the same way that Marilyn Manson has covered certain tunes and simply owned them.

Note that most of the negative reviews here are one-star attempts at smarmy juvenile bitching.

I won't say this album is for everyone, but for those that hear the WHOLE THING (not just the samples on Amazon), you may understand why this album is adored so much.

And for those who may not be aware, Comfortably Numb won an award for being best dance. Weird but cool.

"Hell if Jesus had the power than so do I
To rise up from the dead and take up to the sky
I'm bustin' for the money so I get by
If music is the victim then so am I"

Free Music Review: comfortably incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

If you have ever had a love of Elton John, ABBA, or all things 80's, this is the CD for you. Its an incredibly fun CD to listen to with some great ballads along the way. I listened to it, fell in love at once, and deemed them my favorite band in a second. Not to mention they did a song with my name - Laura (and its awesome too!)

Filthy/Gorgeous, for me, is by far the best song on the album. Ana Matronic plays up the sex aspect while Jake Shears (see where the name comes from?) sings in falsetto the greatest gay bar dance routine song in the world.

However this is not to say that the rest of the songs are bad. FAR from it. "Laura" is fun and funky and has a great beat, "Music is the Victim" is a tribute to Elton-John-esque pop hits, "T!ts on the radio" is sung by Ana and says a lot about the American society. Their revamps of "Comfortably Numb" and "Can't Come Quickly Enough" are WONDERFUL-- although if you're buying this SOLELY for the pink floyd cover, this is probably not the CD for you. Finally I have to mention that anybody who has read the complete Oz Cronicles will thrill at thier knowledge in the final song, "Return to Oz." Its like a private nerd joke :)

At the end of it all, its a GREAT cd. If you can find it, grab a UK release with the extra tracks (and Ana Matronic's hilarious message). This album is fun, dancy, and a turn from the norm and I highly recommend it... 5 stars without a doubt.

Free Music Review: Outrageously Entertaining!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought the CD way back last summer and haven't lost that incredible feeling of elation yet. Quite simply, Scissor Sisters know how to entertain better than any other current act out there. Their songs are a breath of fresh air in the rap, hip-hop, teen pop wasteland. The lyrics are intelligent yet never snooty; brutally honest but not mean spirited and most of all just oozing FUN!

I also had the pleasure of going to their live show in December and can say I've never seen a better act. They partied hard and made sure we did too. They are incredibly well rounded performers with no need to lip sync even though they work their butts off dancing and prancing all over the stage.

If you are close minded or have a hard time dealing with anything out of the mainstream, this band may not be for you. They are very in-your-face about their gay lifestyle which is something this country doesn't handle well. Too bad for us cause they are the ones having the most fun!

For the record, I never cared for disco or the Bee Gees for that matter. I also happen to love Pink Floyd. Nonetheless, the Scissor Sisters cover of "Comfortably Numb" strikes me as brillant. They took a classic piece and reworked it as to be almost unrecognizable from the original. It now stands completely on it's own. And what other reason is there to remake a classic if not to do something totally different with it? BRILLIANT!!!

Free Music Review: Extravagant Decadent Brilliance
Hit: 5 Stars

The music appeals to the carnal pleasures in all of us. It's kinky, over the top, and the best part is you have the sense that the band is not afraid to come out of their element. It has few boundaries, yet the music is structured with great care. If you admire Elton John's brilliance and style for song writing, but feel he doesn't shoot for the stars, then the Scissor Sisters are for you. Glam rock and disco are brought to new life with a style that oozes sex. Warning: Music not suitable for puritans or the south. Indoor plumbing is a requirement to enjoy this music.

If the sexual inferences are a bit too much and the shrill vocals are not you're thing, I would recommend The Killers. They're a bit tamer, but they still execute a club and dance atmosphere. I slightly prefer the Scissor Sisters because they aren't afraid of exploiting the synthesizer.

Anecdotal side note: I've always liked Elton John, but like many, feel he is somewhat tame. Great talent, but just doesn't capture the hard hitting fill I need. I then discovered my two favorite bands this year: Scissor Sisters & The Killers. I wasn't shocked but was pleasantly surprised when Elton John on Leno said he liked two bands this year: The Killers and Scissor Sisters. Great minds think alike. haha

Free Music Review: I hate Pink Floyd, so i'm giving this five stars!
Hit: 5 Stars

I listened to some of the song samples here and i liked what i heard. I was reading all the one-star negative reviews from the die-hard Pink Floyd fans who are going on about how Scissor Sisters ruined the classic song Comfortably Numb, and how Pink Floyd are the greatest rock band in music history, blah blah blah. Well check out MY reviews for Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall, cause i hate Pink Floyd and think they are one of THE most over-rated and most depressing rock groups ever. If any group today, especially a dance group, can take a depressing drug song like Comfortably Numb and turn it into something unrecognizable from the original version that i say GOOD FOR THEM!!! That is reason enough for me to go out and buy this cd; and that's exactly what i'll be doing. I like music that is fun and creative and uplifting. Pink Floyd fans need to get their heads out of the sand of tired 70s FM rock that gets recycled over and over, and maybe open the curtains a bit and go outside for a walk and smell the fresh air. I mean how many more times do you want to wallow in your Pink Floyd mental depression misery of The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon? Those two albums alone are enough to incite anyone to jump out a window. There IS life beyond Pink Floyd you know.
