Free Music Notes for Scissor SistersFree Music Review: BRILLIANT!!! And finally here in the U.S.! Hit: 5 Stars
For months upon months now, I've been reading about the buzz surrounding this new band over in the UK. Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, & others have sung their praises (2 of my favorites, so how could they be wrong?). What I didn't realize was that the band is actually American! How surprising, given their European approach to pop music. The eleven songs here touch down on just about every genre of pop/rock since the 70's, from disco to classic rock, from techno to psychedelia, from bubblegum to glam, etc. Lead singer Jake Shears (my new hero) sounds most like a young Elton John until he kicks it up into falsetto- then he becomes Barry Gibb of the BeeGees. The songs are catchy as hell, the beats are irresistible, & the band is full of style & personality. This is what pop music should sound like! Scissor Sisters deserve to be the next big thing. American radio won't touch them with a ten-foot pole, but hopefully, they'll at least get some video play- on VH1 at 3 o'clock in the morning maybe? MTV's too busy airing "Newlyweds." So don't wait for the media to introduce you to this band- go find out for yourself & if you like good pop music, you'll fall in love with this.

John Cameron Mitchell (do some research) heard Jake Shears singing 'Laura' years ago and knew the guy was gonna be big. Why? Talent. And yes, UFO's Strangers In The Night IS a great guitar album, but it ain't the Scissor Sisters. (Although, Schenker would look great in drag!) I've heard all the complaints, but the bottom line is they write great songs and there are some very fun riffs at work here. And if you know all their influences, why haven't you even mentioned Roxy Music, the most obvious one? Hmmmmm? (gee...who are they?)

Rock On, Babydaddy!
Give it a rest. Comfortably Numb isn't going anywhere soon. And are you bright enough to understand Waters had to give them the legal right to 'cover' it, anyway! But to compare Scissor Sisters to most of the crap being produced today is unfair, BECAUSE THEY CAN PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS. This cd has some great songs. Memorable. Catchy. Too bad Floyd can't write great songs anymore. Quit worshipping an album that isn't even really Pink Floyd, more like the 'Waters Ego Project' instead. You fell for it people, you're giving this more notoriety than the Sisters ever imagined!
Free Music Review: blew my mind Hit: 5 Stars
this band rocks! PLEASE dont listen to all those closed minded idiots, this band is one of the most creative bands ive heard lately. if you compare it to most american pop music you wouldnt even think it would be relatively on the same plane. i mean pop rock today (in my opinion) is horrible. you got simple plan, avril lavigne, and all those god awfull bands that call themselves punk or hardcore or even the one who simply call themselves pop. Pop used to be incredible. i mean take the Beatles for example. This band gives me hope for new upcoming pop music. its no wonder that this band was a hit in europe. Europe is way ahead of their time. America, i am sad to say, is slow. one reason i love this album is because every song is different from the last. The bands creative influences go from Prince to Elton John, and maybe even through in a little David Bowie, i mean what a combonation. Another thing, Lead man Jake Shears CAN SING!!!! i havnt heard vocals like that comming from a rock band in a long time. If you consider yourself to be at all diverse and open minded, and have a taste for some real talent, you should definately check them out.
Free Music Review: Seriously under-rated! Hit: 5 Stars
This group is serously unique and should be more well known. With the electronic rock/fusion sounds, to the amazing voice of Jake Shears, the CD is a must own! Forget about the millions of punk boys bands that all sound the same. Get this. If your open to a different approach to music, listen to this. A serious music fan looks for originality. And Scissor Sisters has it all.
The albu starts with Laura, a fun fresh track with a powerful piano lead. My favourite song. Jake's voice is great and goes really well with the music. There's also a fun accordian in this.
Take your mama out is quite a nonsence track, fun nevertheless. Slightly pop-py with lots of piano. Comfortably numb is a weird song, like a slow disco/dance song. Kind of cool, and different. Mary is the only bad track on the CD but ah well. It's really slow but that's why I don't really like it. Other than that the music is brilliant. Oh yeah Filthy/Gorgeous is a fantastic disco song with electo-rock sounds. I could name all the tracks - they're all worth being a no. 1 but you'll have to buy the album to find out!
Free Music Review: Best of 2004 Hit: 5 Stars
Its unusual these days to find a group that sounds different on almost every song on their album. SS has the wonderful knack of being inspired by a huge range of artists, sounds and genres and then fusing them all together to create something quite unique. This is pop, no doubt, but you cant help feeling they've caught the essence of Bowie, Elton John, Disco, Goldfrapp and even some sort of listenable Eurotrash and made it hip cool and ultimately listenable. The lyrics stand alone amongst the self-indulgent romantic rubbish that comes oozing out of my speakers every time i turn the radio on. As a gay guy who spent most of the last fifteen years exploring the gutters of LA, San Fran and NYC, I can relate to what SS are saying more than any group since the Pet Shop Boys were able to tap into the angst of my frustrated and trapped sexually-confused youth.
This album is worth listening to. The lyrics are worth exploring. The band is definitely worth trudging across the globe to see live and I eagerly await whatever it is they choose to dish up next. A splendid debut.
