Free Music Notes for Bad For Good: The Very Best of Scorpions

Free Music Review: five-star band, one-star compilation
Hit: 1 Stars

I don't actually have this CD, but being a huge Scorpions fan, I am quite familiar with all of the songs on it. I can tell you right now that this is a poor collection, and does not do justice to one of the greatest hard rock bands in history.

The Scorpions have been around for many years (about four decades, actually) and their sound has changed a lot over time. So, I can understand how it must be a challenge to select which songs to include in compilations. But come now, you could at least try! All the compilations I've seen (Bad For Good, 20th Century Masters, etc.) include only material recorded from 1979 onward, completely ommitting material from the FIVE studio albums they recorded prior to 1979! These albums are full of great songs, and it doesn't make sense to ignore them.

Maybe you're wondering why I'm bothering to single out "Bad For Good" for ridicule when none of the other collections cut it either. Apart from ignoring entire decades of Scorpions' songs, "Bad For Good" has other major flaws. I would say that this CD suffers greatly from it's ridiculous over-representation of "Crazy World." About a third of all the songs are from that album! "Crazy World" was their biggest selling record, but also one of their least interesting. Even if it had been their best record, that wouldn't justify devoting a third of the compilation to it when the band has released 20+ albums!

I think another major flaw has been gone over by many other reviewers: some songs have been edited for length. WTF?! That should IMMEDIATELY tell you not to buy this CD.

If you are new to the Scorps, or if you are just a casual listener looking for a short collection, I reccomed "Best of Rockers n' Ballads". It isn't a perfect collection, and doesn't have as many songs as this one (maybe that's actually a good thing - that way, none of the songs need to be edited!) but I think it gives a better impression of the band.

Free Music Review: Missing their best song
Hit: 3 Stars

Their best song, in my opinion of course, is "I'm Leaving You" and it's not on this compilation. Thus, it is fatally flawed.

Free Music Review: Scorpions greatest hits?
Hit: 3 Stars

I thought this greatest hits album was ok but the cds the songs came from were much better. First off, they butchered still loving you, believe in love, and alien nation so they could fit in the last 2 tracks which wern't even that good. Second of all there are 4 songs from the "Crazy World" album which was good but not nearly as good as their albums such as "LoveDrive "Blackout" "Love at first sting" 3rd, no songs from the uli roth era, its obvious he meant nothing to them.
I decided to make a cd of the true greatest scorpions from the era 1979-1991. I burned this list in this exact order and i must say, it kicks ass!!!!

1.Coming Home- great because it starts off slow but then turns out to be one of their hardest rocking songs ever. Good starting track because its about their love for the fans. 8.5/10

2. Bad Boys Runnin Wild- OK, so you were just rocked by "Coming
Home" Now prepare to rocked again with this foot stomper.8.5/10

3. The Zoo- Heres a track we all know and love, get ready for a string of well known and loved goodies. 9/10

4. No one like you- Getting pumped yet, I sure am 9.5/10

5. Big city Night- After hearing this song I'm sure you need a minor break from the some of the hardest rocking songs the Scorps have to offer. 9/10

6. When the Smoking is Going Down- This was such an underrated ballad, one of my favorite by the scorpions. You will get good and relaxed listening to this song.9/10

7. Can't Explain- I've never heard a better cover song 7.5/10

8. I'm Leaving You- Heres an underrated mid tempo song that is one of my favorites by the Scorpions. 8.5/10

9. Still Loving You- one of the greatest ballads ever written, simply beautiful. 10/10

10. Rock You Like a Hurricane- This song is traditionally played after Still loving you in concerts so i thought this was a good spot to stick it. 9/10

11.Arizona- This is such an under rated song. So much fun to sing along to with the music just screaming party!!! 8.5/10

12. Don't Believe Her- This song literally rocks my socks off, sadly one of their only later songs that did that for me. 9/10

13. Believe in Love- This was the follow up to "Still Loving You" Though it's not as great, it's still a very emotional song that builds intensity and the song goes on. 8.5/10

14. Send me an Angel- Heres a very soothing ballad by the scorpions. Can't name many songs where he's ever sounded better. Heavenly atmosphere to it. 7.5/10

15. Blackout- BLACK OUT!!!!!! I REALLY HAD A BLACK OUT!!!!!!! THE SCORPIONS GO CRAZY WITH THIS ONE. THEY ARE SO INTO IT ITS AWSOME. 8.5/10

16. Lady Starlight- This is a song about being miles and miles away from you love, another great ballad by the Scorpions 8/10

17. Make it Real- Thought this would be a good closing track. It's about how you should trust your inner feelings about what you want out of life and you should never give in just because it seems too far out of reach 7.5/10

I'd love to fit more songs but there was just not enough space on the cd. Other songs I really wish I could of added were, Holiday, China White, Always Somewhere, Falling In Love and many many more.
