Free Music Review: Love it. Just Love It
Hit: 5 Stars

Man, was I positively surprised when I bought this record. Scorpions go from beautiful ballad to pounding heavy metal in this record. The concept is great, the cover art this time is not something I am ashamed to bring home (like Virgin Killer, though I do tip my hats off for stirring the controversy), and the production quality is top notch. Heck, they even use symphonic elements in Humanity. My favorite track on this record is 321. A really catchy rocker that stays in your head for weeks. I have family that don't even like Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and really enjoyed this song along with the others. I even enjoyed the presence of Billy Corgan on The Cross. Now keep in mind, I hate grunge or any of that alternative garbage that was released, but I really believe that Corgan's voice complemented Meine very well. I have to give Corgan a round of applause on this record (but Smashing Pumpkins still leaves a really bad taste). Many have complained that this record has too many ballads, but that did not bother me. I liked all of the songs on this record. Each song has its own energy. If you are an old time Scorpions fan, you will love this album. If you fairly new to the Scorpions, you will still like it (but I recommend that you listen to Blackout, Love at First Sting and Fly to the Rainbow first). Hope you guys like it as much as I did!!!

Free Music Review: Return to form, with a modern edge
Hit: 5 Stars

This is simply the best CD I have listened to this year. Granted, I am a product of the '80's and I have a soft spot for the bands of my youth. However, I have been disapointed with recent releases by the hair bands of my youth as they try to return to glory. The "covers" movement (i.e. "Poison'd!," Def Leppard's abysmal "Yeah," and Tesla's rip off "Real to Reel") by these bands has left me depressed. I ordered the new Scorpions' CD from Amazon and with apprehension but in my car's CD player. I was simply blown away. This is the best Scorpions album in years-"Crazy World" way back in 1991 was the last album of theirs that I could listen to. The songs are simply great and the band plays fantastic! The CD sounds to me like a mix of classic Scorps and more modern bands like Marilyn Manson (The CD actually reminds me of Alice Cooper's "Brutal Planet" and "Dragontown," both of which I actually DIDN'T like!). The only disapointment I had was that there were no lyric sheets included. Normally, I don't really mind, but sometimes Klaus Meine is a little difficult to understand and, according to the liner notes, this is a concept album about a war between man and machine (How original!), but I couldn't really follow the plot. Anyway, unfortunately this CD is not being released in the US, but do yourself a favor and order it now!!

Free Music Review: TRUE METAL - Hour 1 : Buy NOW !!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Scorpions fan since their World Wide Live and followed closely their career during 80's and 90's. To be honest I didn't liked their last records (Pure Instinct, Unbreakable, Eye2Eye) as much as their previous albums, they were too much experimental or not adding anything new to their career.

With Humanity Hour 1, they offer the best of both worlds: first, they return to their classic sound but still innovating and not repeating old formulas. The tracks are all linked to a single theme ("a la Operation:Mindcrime") and even when they are secuenced in concept, each song is strong and has its own personality. Hard to find a weak song in the record, I specially liked "Love will keep us alive" and "Future Never Dies" a couple of interesting songs, and 321, the next Scorpions anthem that reaches the energy of "Hit Between the Eyes". The ballads don't fall in the excess of sugar like the "You and I" and the riffs in each song are just great.

For those who feared that Scorpions career was close to the end, they are back and stronger than ever. This records reivindicates the classic metal and gives hope for the future.

Free Music Review: Another impressive addition to an already impressive catalogue
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't stop listening. Sure, I'm biased. The Scorps are my favorite band, without question. That said, I thought the "return to our roots" Unbreakable album fell a little short. Hour 1 hits the mark. I can respect the Desmond Child haters, but I think some of them are discounting this album just because his name is attached to it. A band like the Scorpions isn't going to let Desmond Child, or anyone else, change their sound or overproduce their songs. That said, you can tell someone (Child) was behind the glass working these songs. But that's not a bad thing. Everything you expect from a 2007 Scorps album is here. Sure, it's not Lovedrive or Blackout or LAFS, but it is great new material. Klaus is at the top of his game as usual. Matthias shreds, something he hasn't done since Face the Heat (with the exception of the Borderline solo on Unbreakable). Rudolph's rhythm sections draw you in. And Kottak's drumming has become a real strength in the post-Rarebell era. And the love songs get a little sappy ... in an appealing way that only these guys can pull off. If you're thinking about buying this album, think no more.

I finally picked this album up after almost 4 years of debating on whether I should get it. I am very pleased that I did. I have followed these guys for years, and have bits from all parts of their catalog, and I am disappointed I did not pick this up earlier. After hearing Humanity on XM the other day, I revisited the album online again and finally picked the hard copy up. From the opening track Hour 1 with Johnny 5, it set up the album and pulled me through with much of the guitar and melody licks you would expect, but a crisp production edge that makes this sound very different from other albums. There is some type of theme of human morals/regrets/missed opportunities/demise of civilization/and time in general running out, but it is not a concept album. My favorite tracks are Hour 1, Humanity, The Cross, and We Were Born to Fly. Desmond Child has done a fine job with the production. Klaus's voice has not sounded aged at all, no cracking and electronic modulation needed. This has a nice progressive rock sound to it. A nice introduction for new listeners, and a new take for old listeners like myself.
