Free Music Notes for Humanity Hour 1Free Music Review: THE (LONG AWAITED) RETURN OF SCORPIONS! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm happy to say that the Scorpions are finally back and are on top. Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, Rudolf Schenker and company are back with 'Humanity Hour, Vol. 1,' which is their finest since 1990's 'Crazy World.'
The record starts off really strong with 'Hour 1.' This song is amazing, and it shows how well the group can play--24 years after the release of their huge hit 'Rock You Like A Hurricane.'
And the highlights just keep coming. 'The Cross,' a duet with The Smashing Pumpkins' leader Billy Corgan, is a huge highlight, and his voice and Meine's mix very well together.
Other highlights are '321,' 'You're Lovin' Me To Death,' 'We Were Born To Fly,' 'Humanity,' and 'The Game Of Life.'
Overall, this is one of their finest albums. It's right up there with 'Animal Magnetism,' 'Love At First Sting' and 'Blackout.'
If you like the Scorps even a little bit, than you're almost guaranteed to love this album. It's truly 'love at first sting.'
Highly recommended for any Scorps fan. An instant crowd pleaser. ENJOY!!!
Free Music Review: Scorpion's heaviest release to date Hit: 5 Stars
It's amazing to hear this band emitting so much intensity and energy after all these years. This is THE heaviest album from the band. Vocals are high quality with crisp voice and sensible lyrics. The album starts with an energetic Hour I, peaks at 321, the best song on the album, and ends at a soft-yet-strong Humanity. There's also a beautiful ballad, called "Love will keep us alive", which is also probably the lightest song on the record. There's not a single slack moment in the entire album. Each and every song, barring one, has razor riffs with excellent sound engineering. Although you might complain in the end about the heaviness of the album, but will nevertheless find yourself reaching out for this CD again after a short while. Compositions have very catchy tunes, and not enough words can be used to praise the band's playing.
A master stroke! A MUST BUY for any music lover. While metalheads will love this album simply because it is a perfectly crafted metal album, non-metalheads can get a lesson on how metal music SHOULD actually sound.
Free Music Review: A Pretty Good Concept Hit: 5 Stars
Actually, more like 4.5 stars! I will have to admit that I was a little apprehensive when I learned that the newest Scorps. release was a concept album. However, I have been pleasantly surprised from what I have heard. What I am glad to report is that the songs on this CD "stand alone!" Some of my favorites include "Game Of Life," "You're Lovin' Me To Death," "321" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive." I have no problem with the ballads as Klaus' voice sounds crisp and clear. "We Were Born To Fly" reminds me a little of "Wind Of Change" (although certainly not as good) "Humanity" is a great way to end the album with the intro. somewhat similar to "Still Loving You." This is my 5th favorite Scorps. album of all time behind Love At First Sting, Lovedrive, Taken By Force and Blackout. A little concerned also when I saw that the 80's hitmaker for Kiss and Bon Jovi (Desmond Child) co-wrote and produced the CD. However, he did so with what I would consider "admirable restraint!" My favorite rock CD this year!
Free Music Review: The Best German metal band ever! Hit: 5 Stars
The Scorpions have been doing this for years now, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone when they have yet again released another gem.
What can you say about this band that hasn't already been said. They are consistent for the most part and true to what they do. They have gotten away somewhat from the heavier stuff over the years, but they continue to write great songs and have done this decade after decade. Yes time passes bye, and yet here we are still listening to good solid tunes from a fantastic band and that is nothing more than amazing.
This is without a doubt their best effort in a number of years as it see's them returning to what I'd like to call their glory days. If you loved the 70's/80's/early 90's Scorpions, you'll be absolutely thrilled with this cd. As I've said earlier on, it's not Blackout heavy, yet it contains amazing guitar work and truly wonderful sounding songs.
Pick it up and enjoy it for what it is, great music with a boatload of feel!
Free Music Review: Unanimously one of the best in many years Hit: 5 Stars
As a fan for over 20 years (my first concert was the Scorpions in '88) I must say this is definitely the strongest record since Crazy World or even since Love at First Sting. I and several of my friends who have been listening to an import copy of the album for a few months and agree that there are just no fillers on the album. It is highly consistent and after owning more than 1300 CDs, one that I really am enjoying listening to over and over again.
Some of us just didn't realize they had still had this in them. I had expectations, but had kept them in check since it's hard to say how much fire and spark they can have after 35 years. Yes, there were song doctors involved, namely Desmond Child and Marti Frideriksen, but the core of the songs sounds like Scorpions and I don't hold the collaboration against them - ultimately the CD delivers big time.
All expectations have been blown away, the album is a masterpiece, no matter if it sells well in North America or not. Wow!
