Free Music Review: The Best Scorpions Studio Album Since 1990
Hit: 5 Stars

What a great album "Unbreakable" is. This is definitely the best studio album they have released since 1990's "Crazy World", and ranks right up there alongside that album and "Blackout" as one of their best albums ever.

"Unbreakable" incorporates styles and sounds from all through their career but it all gels together in a way that makes it sound fresh and has that distinctly unique Scorpions sound that all us fans love.

Undoubtedly what makes this album far better than their recent studio releases (side projects aside) is the song writing. The band's nucleus Klaus Meine, Rudolph Schenker and Matthias Jabs share the bulk of the song writing, along with their drummer of recent years James Kottak (ex Kingdom Come). This is how it should be, unlike some legendary bands who've been around for a while that have recently relied (unsuccessfully) on outside songwriters. Who better to write a band's songs than the band themselves?
On "Unbreakable" there are 3 outside writers who contribute on 3 songs, but even then, these songs are co-written by the Scorpions. As a result the songs on this album are great, and "Unbreakable" is much more consistent than their recent albums. Although "Eye To Eye", "Pure Instinct" and "Face The Heat" have some excellent songs on them, there are no where near as many as there are on "Unbreakable".

My favorites are "New Generation", "Deep And Dark", "Blood Too Hot", "Someday Is Now", "My City My Town" and "If You Could See It Through My Eyes" but the others are also very good. The only criticism I have of the song writing is in relation to the lyrics of "She Said" which are just a bit too "nice and mushy" for my liking, but it still isn't a bad song.

Klaus Meine delivers an excellent vocal performance, and Schenker and Jabs get to rock out with their guitars in a way that they have not done for quite some time. The Scorpions on this album sound like a band re-invigorated.

In summary this just a fantastic rock album, and the best album I've bought this year. It has the riffs, the hooks, the melody & the choruses, the energy and the consistency seldom seen these days. That these rock veterans have been able to do it is a credit to them and adds another chapter to their Scorpions legend. Let's hope there are more such chapters to come (or a live concert DVD from the tour for this album!)

Free Music Review: Get STUNG!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album will not disappoint life long Scorps fans (such as myself) and it will (hopefully) draw in a lot of new, younger fans. However, I think it is important to listen to the CD more than once to truly appreciate the effort the guys put into creating this great collection of music.

First and foremost, let it be said that the MUSIC is flawless THROUGHOUT the CD. The compositions are pulsing, pounding, rhythmic (yet melodic) masterpieces. Absolutely CLASSIC Scorps guitar work with solid drumming from James Kottak and great bass-playing from Pawel Maciwoda and assorted "guest bassists". There isn't one negative thing I can say about the musical composition or actual playing. This music WILL make you move!

That being said .. after my first "listen" to the lyrics, I gave three songs an "A+" right away: "Maybe I Maybe You"; "Someday Is Now" and "Remember the Good Times". James Kottak does some of the writing on this CD and his lyrics add a lot to the mix. His off-beat style is perfect to keep the Scorps "up to date". Fans of the 1980's group "The Hooters" will recognize the name Eric Bazilian who contributes to "Remember the Good Times" which is one of the best Scorps tunes I've ever heard. (still love ya Eric!)

Initially, I thought the other songs ranged from "quite good" to "pretty good" .. until I listened to the CD a second time. Klaus' own backing harmonies are fantasic and songs that sounded a little "rhymie dimie" the first time around really grew on me almost immediately. "She Said" is a gorgeous ballad, "Love Em or Leave Em" has a great beat and great harmonies and "New Generation" is a foot stomper.

Overall, my whole impression of the CD DRAMATICALLY improved after my second "listen". I have now had the CD in my player for four days straight and I just keep it on "repeat". The Scorps really did deliver what they promised to their fans and I only hope they get enough radio airplay to encourage the "arena comeback" that they so richly deserve.

Free Music Review: They're BAAACCCKKKKK
Hit: 5 Stars

After putting out a lame album like Eye II Eye, which was a pop filled sellout to try to get more radio play they actually went back to the classic hard passionate music that they've been doing for years.

I couldn't help but cheer when I heard the first part of the first song after putting this album in my C.D player. I guarentee you that this one will be getting some major play time from me.

Good mix of heavy songs, with good riffs. I enjoy that they took on a serious political tone with the New Generation.

They rock hard with New Generation and other songs like Blood Too Hot, Someday is Now, Can You Feel It.

I'm one of those that thinks that the ultimate test for a heavy metal/hard rock band is ballads. If a hard and fast playing group can do ballads then that is testimonial to their power.

Klaus Meine's voice is one of those leader singers, like Geoff Tate of Queensryche, who's voice is very conductive to singing ballads. So often you hear ballads where the singer should have stuck to heavier music.

The voice of Klaus Meine and the play of the group really shines on Through My Eyes. This really harkens back to my high school days, many years ago when they came out with hit after hit for a long long time. This album will bring them back into the main stream of hard rock.

Classic Scorpions are back with this album. This album is very remiscent of "Crazy World!" Same style, good hard songs, intersperced with some good ballads.

If you were disappointed with Eye II Eye, like I was, then this album is most definately for you.

Great album that has the potential to get more then half the songs with some serious airplay.

Real Winner after a dozen years of un-Scorpionlike releases.

Free Music Review: The Scorpions are BACK!!! EXCELLENT release!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am 43 years young, and have been following the band since their Uli Roth days in the mid 70's. The Scorps helped to define 'the soundtrack of my life', being one of my most beloved hard rock bands ever, and in my opinion, one of the first to help define and pave the way for the genre as a whole. That said, I didn't think their latest stuff was nearly as good as their older style before and including 'Crazy World'. 'Pure Instinct' had some good moments, but not as many as previous efforts. And 'Eye To Eye' was quite a departure. Like many other fans, I longed for the clockwork sonic structured chordfest and leadfest that used to be the Scorpions. I am ecstatic to report that 'Unbreakable' is a return to their older roots, but still retaining a modern, fresh approach to the music. The 'edge' they once had is back bigtime! Klaus Meine's voice is AMAZING on this CD, and he sounds like he did in his much younger days. Absolutely top-form! Rudi Schenker is as talented as ever, coming up with titanic rhythm riffs that show his prowess as a seasoned songwriter, with Matthias Jabs doing much the same and of course adding his masterful, 'biting' leads to the mix. And as much as I loved and respected Herman Rarebell and Francis Bucholz in days gone by, I hate to say that releases like this one don't make me miss them one bit, as James Kottak and Pawel Maciwoda can 'kick it' in style. This CD has it all. Slower, power ballads and straightforward trademark Scorps rockers!!! No fillers here. LONG LIVE THE SCORPIONS!!!

Free Music Review: They're back to normal with rock/metal ....
Hit: 5 Stars

After a few "slow" albums, the Scorpions are back with an album filled with surprises; a mix of intense, hard and soft rock songs that will keep you listening to the CD over again. I listened to the music and can't seem to get enough of it as I listen to the music and words. Klause and the guys have done a great job. I'm a big fan and know this is a winner! All the songs are well written and the music gets you into it even more. Die-hard Scorp fans will rejoice with this one. It's been a long time and I feel the songs deserve radio play, and not only with the rock/metal stations in the US but all stations. The songs sound better as you listen to them, and definitely are crank-up tunes to listen to while driving or radion request. Even though some of the songs may have similar sounds, they keep your attention and you don't get tired of hearing them. I can't wait to see them in concert again! It's a breath of fresh air and better than hearing the same stuff on radio all day.
