Free Music Notes for Best: 1991-2004Free Music Review: Almost Perfect! -- Still A must buy! Hit: 4 StarsSometimes I think people do these reviews just so they can complain. As always, Greatest Hits Albums are done for two reasons. First, to sum up an artists career so far and allow those who have become recent fans of the artist to hear previous hits. And second, for the labels to cash in on holiday sales. With that being said, as Greatest Hits albums go, it's almost perfect. While it does fall into the trap of featuring too many tracks from the latest album (lables often do this) it does leave off a few essential hits such as "In the Beginning." But where it lack it also does some surpising and great things, such as including the Jakatta hit remix version of "My Vision". One of the biggest dance singles of 2003 throughout european clubs and radio, and the [...] clubs of the US, it was especially nice to see it included here since it is technically his biggest worldwide hit to date. So it would have been nice to have included the original Adamski feat Seal mix of "Killer" since it was that original version that introduced the world to Seal in the first place. But that's minor. Then to add a second disc of acoustic mixes makes this a Must-have purchase. I look forward to a Seal remix album that contains his multitude a hit dance remixes. Although given the vast amount of remixes and their length, many up to 10 mintues long, it would probably have to be a two or even three disc set. Oh well ... we could dream.
Free Music Review: Get the original albums or the golden "Best" instead Hit: 2 StarsIn 2003, Seal came back from a long musical silence with an album that was well below his musical potential and I gave it three stars. Toward the end of 2004 he comes back with something that normally only happens when one of two things occur: a label contract needs to be fulfilled, or an artist has run out of fuel. I hope it's the former, because I can't think of a good reason to buy this compilation, even if you don't own a single Seal album. If this is your case, do yourself a favor, and spend a few extra bucks (get 'em used if you want) and get his first two albums. Get the third one if you are really into it, and download "Touch", "Love Divine" and "Heavenly" (from the "Seal IV" album) through iTunes. That's truly the best of Seal there is. If you own all Seal albums it is truly pointless to get this album for just one new song.
In sum, as a fan of early Seal, to me this "Best Of" compilation is almost an insult, mainly because it just seems as a marketing and sales gimmick than as an effort to bring new awareness to his early music. If you feel you must own a Seal compilation, get the one with the golden cover instead. At least that one offers a few acoustic versions of Seal classics. Othewise, follow my advice and get the albums.
Free Music Review: Fantastic! Hit: 5 StarsAs a casual fan, I have loved Seal's songs, and this is the perfect compilation of them. I DESPISE the remix of 'My Vison' however, but despite that, it's excellent!
Free Music Review: Pretty good, but easily should have been Better Hit: 3 StarsSeal is the Kind of Artist that we should be talking about as a Great as to a Cat who had some tight Songs, but never got over the limitations that His Producer Trevor Horn held on Him.Seal never got a chance to fully expand what He has.Vocally he is realy good&the songs that truly Hit have a strong torch quality about them.I was hoping to Hear seal expand on His Musical Direction like He did with His Unplugged set.
Free Music Review: Crazy Greatest Hits Hit: 3 StarsSeal's greatest hits finally arrives 10+ years after his debut on Adamksi's UK #1 hit single "killer". Covering his 4 studio albums and soundtrack work, "Best/ 1991-2004" puts together 14 tracks. This album is an excellent compilation for a casual fan who likes Seal's high profile songs like "crazy" or "kiss from a rose" but is a huge disappointment for serious fans.
Being a serious fan I am disappointed by two major things. First, like most greatest hits, there are tracks missing that should have been included. At 14 songs there were was certainly room for missing singles "the beginning", "newborn friend" and "lost my faith." My second disappointment was the use of almost all album versions for the greatest hits. "Crazy" is the album version as is "killer". It would have been nice to get the single versions of all the Seal I singles. I was surprised to see the dancier Jakatta version of "my Vision" included as oppossed to the minimal back verion on Seal IV.
Overal "Seal Best 1991-2004" is an okay purchase featuring all his biggest hits plus new track "walk on by".
