Free Music Notes for Seal IVFree Music Review: Superb Album Hit: 5 StarsThis is arguably Seal's best album! Strong vocals and varying tempos. This is the first Seal album where ALL the songs are great, rather than a select few.
Free Music Review: Soul For the New Millenium Hit: 4 Stars"Romantic" with a capital "r," Seal's best work has always had a grand sweep. On his fourth release, there isn't really any one track that has the epic quality of "Kiss From A Rose," "Prayer for the Dying," or even "Crazy." But a few of the slower tracks (e.g. "Love's Divine," "Touch" and "Tinsel Town")are quite lovely. The record will be especially welcomed by fans of Seal as a SINGER. In an unassuming way, he's stretching on this album. Even on those tracks that are unexceptional, he does give his all. And that counts for something.
It looks as though the British and American versions of this CD may be sequenced differently. Offhand, I'd have to say that the funky "Let Me Roll" probably is a stronger opener than the well meant but awkward 60s sentiment of "Get It Together" (although there is something refreshing about someone penning such "love one another" lyrics in this day and age). And when he moves more from the platitudinous toward the personal, he works up a good deal of the old magic almost effortlessly.
As a soul man for the new millenium, Seal is just about unbeatable.
Free Music Review: Seal's the One! Hit: 5 StarsSeal IV is definitely the CD to buy. His music has a certain distinctive vibe about it that makes you drawn to every sound. This is the type of music you can play anywhere and just listen to it for hours. I can't wait for his next album to come out. When it does, I'll be the first to buy it!
Free Music Review: Breaking his mold Hit: 4 StarsIn this album, Seal breaks with the more somber and complicated songs on his past albums. However, fans of his last albums may still enjoy this one. It takes some more cues from current hip-hop, from classic funk of the 60s and 70s, and of course Seal's own extraordinary writing skills. You can tell he enjoyed working on this, and was at a good time in his life; his optimism and love just breaks through every song.
The whole album is definitely a feel-good collection, but the songs fit together well and though it may not have the sometimes depth of his previous albums, there are still lyrics and melodies that will make your heart ache. The beats on the tracks add to its positive flavor, some of them making you want to get up and dance others letting you proudly belt out the power lyrics along with him. Would recommend for a Seal fan, or for those who liked his voice but perhaps not the style of his previous works. Satisfactory overall, though not groundbreaking, it is a fun and well put together album.
Free Music Review: Bayou Girl Hit: 5 Stars I absolutely love it and also play this CD nearly every morning.
