Free Music Review: Seether: Karma and Effect Hit: 5 StarsI got the brand-new, shrink-wrapped CD within a week and a couple of days of ordering.
Free Music Review: awesome as expected Hit: 4 StarsI must say that I like Disclaimer the best, but seether certainly didn't mess this one up. It is a very strong CD that digs in deep to the soul.
Free Music Review: The band has grown since the first release Hit: 4 StarsSeether is a bad that grows on you over time. The second album seems to have matured the band in that the songs are more interested to listen to and the angst exhibited by the band is more pronounced. It is a good album to listen to when you are exercising or doing something you don't like to do (i.e. shoving snow) it that is gets your energy going and makes what you are doing more enjoyable. Hopefully they will continue to mature and separate themselves from the pack of other post-grunge bands.
Free Music Review: Come sit close to me (3.5) Hit: 3 StarsI'm only a mild Seether fan. I wasn't impressed with Disclaimer at all for the most part, so it's no surprise knowing I had low expectations for Karma and Effect. Well, at least they met my expectations. This CD is almost exactly like Disclaimer, the only difference being that this time around the songs are at least somewhat interesting through the entire CD. Shaun Morgan has a great voice but he gets trapped in unoriginality far too often on here and his lyrics wear intensely thin on more than a few tracks. As far as the rest of the band, there's just not a lot of experimentation musically. However, there are a few great riffs scattered throughout.
As expected, most every track could be radio fodder for the masses who refuse to buy their CDs but like them. Because Of Me, Truth, Burrito, Never Leave, Tongue, and Simplest Mistake are all songs that scream to be played on the radio. This isn't that bad of a thing though because out of those six songs four are actually quite good and don't get old very fast. Songs like Given, Diseased, and Plastic Man are far and away the best featured though. Given isn't that much different from every other track on here but Shaun sounds more focused than usual. Same goes for Diseased and Plastic Man. Diseased builds it's way up to it's amazing climax and Plastic Man is one of the best acoustic songs Seether has ever released.
My favorite songs are Remedy, Burrito, Given, Diseased, and Plastic Man. As good as this CD may be, there's not a lot to it. There's nothing we haven't heard before and very little experimentation. Seether isn't a bad band and you know they probably have an ace up their collective sleeve that is sure to blow us all away. Karma and Effect, however, is hit and miss. Three and a half stars for three terrific songs and a few decent ones.
