Free Music Review: Like Lovers Do is the best song ever!!!!!

This album has a very classy, understated, almost surreal feel to it - Mirroring but never even coming close to overshadowing the characters' feelings. Songs like "Moonlight Kiss" and "The Distance" keep with the film's mood and themes as well as balance out the more random selections like "This Year" and "There's Always Something There to Remind Me." Louis Armstrong's "Cool Yule" is a fabulous jazz Xmas song that's great to have on here, too.But all of these songs pale away in comparison to track #6 : Like Lovers Do by Heather Nova. It's one of those songs that you think is only "okay" the first time you hear it but soon becomes "the greatest song ever"! Once I warmed up to this song, I played it NONSTOP, literally! It was on repeat mode in my stereo, my car, and my head while I was at work! One day last April I literally played it 50+ times! (Just so you know, it's not just me being overly crazy! - my best friend grew to like the song in the exact same fashion!)
"Like Lovers Do" is an ethereal, wistful song sung with a beautiful, high voice that lends some assertiveness and electricity to a song that many artists could easily botch up. Heather Nova (of whom I'm not even particularly a fan) has managed to write THE most lovely song and performed it the way it was meant to be heard!
That song alone is the real reason I gave the CD 5 stars. Without it, I would say maybe a 3 or even a 2. "Like Lovers Do" is my main reason for insisting all hopeless romantics get this CD! Give it a few tries, and before you know it, you'll wear this track out and have to buy a new copy of "Serendipity"!!!!!

Much like its namesake film the SERENDIPITY soundtrack walks the tightrope of romantic notions without falling off into a pool of mawkish sentiment. This was musically accomplished by rounding up material from a number of critically acclaimed established artists and their equally promising younger peers. Representing the old guard are Shawn Colvin with a lush ode to pre-determined love ('When You Know') Annie Lennox and her trip-hop soaked reading of a Bob Marley classic ('Waiting In Vain') and David Gray with a chiming instrumental ('January Rain'). The breadth of notable cuts also includes the late Nick Drake's breathy 'Northern Sky ' Louis Armstrong's swinging 'Cool Yule' and Chantal Kreviazuk's twangy 'This Year.' Other artists featured on this tastefully executed collection are Evan & Jaron (the heartfelt 'The Distance') Heather Nova (a simmering 'Like Lovers Do') and newcomer Bap Kennedy (the jazzy 'Moonlight Kiss'). SERENDIPITY turns out to be a welcome change from the usual banal musical normally culled for date movies.Folk Music CDs
