Free Music Notes for Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: simply Fab! Hit: 5 StarsI have just returned from visiting my childhood with this CD! Oh, what memories. Sergio Mendes music is one of a kind. Always fell good after listening to it. Buy it.....you won't be sorry
Free Music Review: I'm glad I still have a turntable... Hit: 3 StarsI'm glad I still have a turntable, because that's the only way one can hear the original albums by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. It's shameful that no American box set exists of their complete A&M recordings, which were loaded with entertaining songs that will never show up on a "Greatest Hits" collection. Especially not on this one, which doesn't even take advantage of the CD format with a few bonus cuts. Nor does this release feature their earlier, more purely Brazillian material. It's OK, but I recommend checking out your local used record stores, where Brasil '66 can usually be had on vinyl, in good condition & at a reasonable price. Bob Rixon, WFMU
Free Music Review: Excellent musical blend of jazz, samba and rock. Hit: 5 StarsThis CD provides a wonderful snapshot of a truly unique kind of music. Sergio Mendes captured the strange mood of a genuinely bizarre era in which musical experimentation flourished and no combination of sound was considered too outlandish. Mendes and his talented group managed to combine elements of jazz, rock, pop and samba, creating what can only be described as an exotic listening experience. It's a shame that all of their various albums aren't available on CD. Whenever I hear their music, I'm back in the '60s, when everything seemed possible and there were no limits on the creative mind.
Free Music Review: Great Songs, Great Recordings Hit: 5 StarsThis cd has an ultimate sound for it's era. There is nothing finer than the smooth, silk voices on "The Look of Love" and "Fool on the Hill". I can see my old A&M 45's spinning now. Ah, to be young again! This one takes me back, spinning with delight.
Free Music Review: This is a tropical delight Hit: 4 StarsNothing more sublime than tropicalizing the more familiar songs of the 60's--and sans cheese. Will make you feel as though you are in one of those kicky, slow-mo 1971 love scenes.
