We have never seen this show on stage, but we were curious about the music. We were not disappointed! The music is clever, catchy, fun, and very well-done. There are even some sweet songs that bring tears to your eyes.
The story is easy to figure out from the various songs, as well as the notes in the lyrics. The story includes many characters from Dr. Seuss books such as The Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Whos, Gertrude McFuzz....the list goes on. It is amazing how many characters are represented, and how many books are referred to.
After playing this in the car, I have often overheard my kids singing various songs from the CD. This is just a lot of fun for the entire family. We are looking forward to finally seeing the show on stage this summer.
My kids and I highly recommend this fantastic group of songs!

My 5 year old daughter saw the show on Broadway with both David Shiner and Rosie O'Donnell and loved them both. Ignore the reviews! They seemed to have some hidden agenda that had nothing to do, as far as I'm concerned, with the quality of the production. The cast recording is outstanding and brings it home. And, although the recording lacks Rosie's entertaining take on the Cat in Hat character, Shiner adds his own charm. The tunes are catchy and fun, with valuable messages like, "A person's a person no matter how small," throughout. My daughter sings that and "anything's possible," all the time. Hearing the recording makes us want to see the show again and again. I feel compelled, because of the undeserved reviews of the stage performance, to get the message out there that YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE THIS SHOW (and cast recording)!Free Music Review: Great Musical

This recording is great! I first listened to a sample of this musical in Borders and from that first note on the oboe I knew I had to get it. It was great. The music was just so nice to listen to(of course! It's stephen Flaherty) and the characters were fun. When I finally bought it ,which was about a week and a half ago, I never stopped listening to it. Now I have it basically memorized and am trying to get my friends to adopt it too. If you are considering buying this cd don't look at how it is off broadway now. That was just because nobody went to see it. Instead look at how it was reviewed when it first premeiered. It was considered one of best. How could it be bad if Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty wrote it. And if you dont know who they are , then just listen to Ragtime and Once on this island. I'm not very much of a Dr. Seuss fan myself. I found out about this spectacular show because one of my friends was in their school production, so I went to go see it. I was shocked. This is such a clever musical. Not only will kids love it, but i think some adults will like it, too! This musical has fun and witty characters, a cool plot and of course, amazing songs! It was hard for me to find the soundtrack after I saw the show, but a year later, I found the soundtrack!!! I had forgotten how great this musical was! The singing in this recording is absolutely wonderful and I really hope that I will get another chance to see the show again, and maybe even be in it myself! WARNING: This soundtrack may get you dancing and singing without even thinking about it. Listen responsibly. LOL!
