Free Music Notes for Seussical [2000 Original Broadway Cast]Free Music Review: A Joyous recording!! Hit: 5 Stars
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have done it again. This score is incredible. There seems to be a song for EVERY musical taste here. Those of you who like funky R and B should check out "Monkey Around". Into military marches? Give "The Military" a listen. Like old fashioned vaudeville and specialty numbers? I recommend "How Lucky You Are" and "Here on Who". Power ballads? "Alone in the Universe" and "Notice Me, Horton" are the tracks to check out. I saw the Boston tryout, and was instantly hooked. I'll be seeing it again very soon on Broadway, and cannot wait to relive those moments. This is highly suitable for introducing youngsters to the magic of musicals as the language is pure Seuss and not foul at all.
Free Music Review: Underrated! Hit: 5 Stars
Maybe the kiddie premise of this show turned critics off, but I just am in love with the music. Even though the show is dominated by animals, I think people, especially women, can relate to the obstacles in the show. (For example, Gertrude McFuzz gets a bigger tail to gain Horton's attention, Mayzie LaBird ends up with an egg after her fling "flies the coop" lol) Musical styles range from latin to pop to r&b to traditional broadway ballads. The highlights of the show include beautiful "Notice Me, Horton" and vibrant layered "Solla Sollew". As with most Broadway shows, you may have to give it a few listens to appreciate it. Still, don't turn a deaf ear to this CD, it's wonderful in it's own right!

I purchased this cd after I had seen a youth theatre production of Seussical with my daughters, who are 6 and 4. Both of my daughters listen to it in the car and in their room. For my youngest daughter's birthday, we took her to see another production at Cal State Fullerton at the end of October. She sang every word of every song and afterwards we were fortunate to get pictures with most of the cast. It was so great to see her smile with Horton, Mayzie, Gertrude and the Sour Kangaroo. During the show, people would turn around and smile as they noticed her excitement with the entire production. She has created a few more fans for Seussical and we are looking forward to the next time we can see it!
Free Music Review: Wonderful Music for a wonderful Musical !!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I was a guitar player in the band for a community theater production of this wonderful musical. The CD was vitally important for my practice of the music. Since the Musical itself is an "operetta", the majority of the show is captured on the CD. Buy the CD simply to enjoy the fantastic Seuss imagination and stories. The music itself is a wide variety of styles from ragtime to rock. The actors are fabulous and the singing is perfect. If you are a fan of Dr. Seuss, this CD is a must! And if you ever get a chance to see the stage production, even at the local community level, I encourage you to go! Your heart will be uplifted and you'll laugh a lot!
Free Music Review: FANTASTIC! Hit: 5 Stars
I loved this musical since the moment that I was sitting in Boston's Colonial Theatre the overture started. For close to three hours I was completley entertained. I love Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahearns (I loved Ragtime and Once on This Island). The entire cast was great! Kevin Chamberlain, Michelle Pawk and Jannie Lamana all deserve Tony nominations. Alone in The Universe and Notice Me Horton stand out as the best songs in the show. This truly is in my opinion, the best new musical of the season. The critics were way too harsh, and you should definetly buy this CD, even if you havent seen the show, but love Dr. Seuss. Long Live Seussical!
